9 mo old hound not housebroken

PLease help!! I have a 9 month old Bluetick Coonhound that will eliminate anywhere she sees fit. She has urinated on my bed, my couch, laundry, and just about every place else. She is doing this in front of me with no warning. She could be chewing a bone on the floor, and then hop on the couch and squat. I am on the verge of finding her a new home because it is unbearable! She even eliminates in her crate! FYI, no med problems, had that checked out first.

How long does she stay in the crate? Maybe you could try reducing the time and it might help, if you haven't tried already.

Back to housetraining 101.  In a crate and a SMALL one (if she has to LAY in her pee, that's her problem) or on a leash while you WATCH her.  Take her outside frequently...I use a key phrase...go outside and go potty?  Then TELL her once outside to "go potty" then praise her for her GOOOOOOD potty.  Until she gets this through her head, no freedom in the house AT ALL.

Don't react when she makes a mistake.  Take her outside or to a different room before you clean it up, and use a GOOD enzyme destroyer like petastics to KILL the enzymes and completely eliminate the smell.  You might not be able to smell it, but I promise you that SHE can and inside smells like where it's ok to pee right now.  you're going to have to be very firm, very patient and very consistent, but by golly, it CAN be done.

At 9 months, your girl should be good to go in the crate for TEN hours, much longer than any reasonable person would expect a dog to be crated.

    • Never allow your dog to be on your bed unless she's potty train.
    • Does she have specific spots in the house in which she always pee on?
    • Do you have a potty schedule in which you take her out?
    • Had she been always like this when you got her, peeing everywhere?

I'll add to all this good advice that it sound like this darling has too much freedom in the house.  She has not yet earned the right to be anywhere in the house she wants to be.  You need to gate her in the kitchen and keep her in sight at all times.  Don't think of rehoming her over this, you can succeed at housetraining her!!!  Take her out ALOT, like every 1/2 hour at first.  She won't do something every time, but when she does, make sure you've got a special treat in your pocket to give her and throw a party for her.  If she doesn't do anything, it was just a trip outside.  If she pees in front of you inside, don't yell at her, simply go "Eh" to get her attention and calmly take her out to the yard and tell her she's good.  If you find a tinkle spot in the house after the fact, there's no scolding or talking to the dog about it, it's just a cleaning job.  And, as Glenda said, clean it well with an enzymatic cleanser.  I also like to spray NO GO on the cleaned spot.
