4 1/2 month old puppy going by door

    Hi Guys,

My 4 1/2 month old rotti mix puppy is completly potti trained, he has not had any accidents at all in about 6 weeks, but for the past two weeks or so, every 15 min or so he goes by the door, so I can take him out... I know he doens't have to go this often and he doens't always go when i take him out.  He just likes to be outside and go on walks.  I don't have a yard to let him out in so whenever I take him out i need to walk him.  How can I get him to only do that when he has to go potti?

    Thanks,

    Jess

    Clever little guy, isn't he.

My suggestion would be to make a clear distinction between going outside to potty and going outside to walk.

When you are going to go out and you know it's potty time, go out to his potty area and when his business is done, go back into the house.  If this coincides with a walk time, then stay in the house for 10 minutes or so and then go out for a walk, bypassing the potty area.  Also, make each day very consistent in terms of when he gets walked.  My dogs are walked at noon time and after supper every day, now that the warm weather is here.  It's taken a month, but they know the schedule now and look for their walks at that time.  In between, they know it's just potty time in the yard.

I think he will learn that walks come at a certain time of the day, reliably, every day.
