12 Week old pupy and 1 yr old puppy!

I have a one year old Jack/Doxi named Orion. we had decided that when he was a year that we would get a second puppy as a companion for Orion, we felt bad for leaving him alone when we are gone durning the day.

They seem to be getting along however, Orion has decided that every morning he wants to  ;poop on the carpet in the middle of the floor. He is mat trained and litter box trained. What can i do to break him of his? I am getting very frustrated with this.

Also, I am trying to get in to the patteren of going outside to go potty hence in about five months I will have my own place and want pee free carpet any tips on this??

A couple of things jump out at me from your post:

When is he producing this poo pile for you?  Immediately upon getting up?  After a meal?  Randomly?  If you are getting up with him in the morning and expecting him to independently go to his box and use it, you are obviously asking too much of him at the moment, he's not "getting it."  Mat trained, litter trained, out to the yard trained.  I think all these options would be confusing the little guy.  I would say go with one method and stick with it consistently.  My little one is trained to ask for the door, however, if she is on the second floor of the house, she will use the pee pads up there, since she cannot go up and down stairs.  During some stormy weather, I put the pee pads down here, but it confused her terribly.  She knows she's not supposed to go inside the house on the first floor.

As for the pooping on the carpet, don't let him in that room.  Limit his access around the house until he's reliable.  Keep him gated in the kitchen with his litter box in the corner.  If you are going to go ahead with yard training, then gate him in the kitchen and take him to his yard OFTEN and throw him a party when he poops out there.  Also, thoroughly clean the areas where any accidents occurred, using a good enzymatic cleaner such as Petastic, and then spray the area with NO GO to discourage further visits to the spot.

Okay when Bella, it's a she. When she wakes up in the middle of the night I take her to the pee pee pad in the kitchen and she does her bussiness in there. Pee and poop. I make a big deal when ever she goes there. I don't go out side at night one it is very cold here and second I don't go out side after 10pm alone in my complex.

When it is time to get up in the morning i take her out side and she does her bussiness. Then we go back inside. After I am done getting ready I give her breakfast and I eat mine then before I leave for work I take her out again. Usually she just pees. I come home durring lunch which is about 4.5 hours from when she last went and she goes pee about 3x's and poop once. We take a short walk and go back inside. I grab my lunch and head back to work.

I then come home after work about 4 hours from when I was last home and I take her out. She goes both again. Back in we go I change in to walking clothes and go for about an hour walk.

Then when we get home I make dinner. She eats her dinner and I eat mine. After I am finished we go out side again. I tend to take her out side about every two to three hours. and on final time before bed.

I always leave a pee pee pad down in the kitchen incase she has to go and I didnt catch it. My older dog always goes on the pad. I have Orion the older one on the same rutine. they both get fed at the same time. I have to watch over them Bella wants what he has and vise a verse.

Orion poops on the living room carpet while I am in the shower. Today I told him that I will be very disapoineted if he poops on the carpet. After my shower I walked out and saw him pooping on his pad I got really happy and he came over and I gave him ear scraches and then Bella did it too! So, she got ear scraches too.

Orion is a barker and we live in a apartment complex so when I gate him off he gets upset and barks and howels and then Bella does it too, so I do not gate him off. I do clean the area that he poops with my spot bot! I love that thing! but he still goes back to it! But today he did good I hope this is a sign of good luch to come! He only does it in the morning!

    Hi Dock,

Sounds like today was a better day and that you've got a consistent routine that is starting to work.  Keep up the hard work, it will certainly pay off.

Most importantly, post some pictures of your sweeties!!!

I know that my dogs, who are 5 years apart, are on the same routine too, but they don't always go at the same time.  I always give them both the opportunity to go out when the other does.  Have you consudered taking Orion out one more time before you get in the shower to see if this will make the difference?  Harley hardly ever goes out when Izzy does, but I know that first thing in the morning he wants to go out.  She on the other hand is too excited to be out of her crate and most importantly eat.  Once she eats and calms down, I let her out and she will go potty then, but won't ever go before then.  If you don't have a denced yard, this may not be as easy, but maybe if you wake up a few minutes earlier to take him out an extra time, and maybe by himself, w/o the other dog.  Just a thought.
