Dragging on leash!!

    Dragging on leash!!

My 11 week old Boxer is unbelievably stubborn on the leash.  When we get outside 90% of the time he just refuses to move...too interested in trying to eat everything.  What bothers me is he will actually keep all 4 legs stiff and I end up dragging him.  I feel like it's hurting him but I want to get him used to walking with me....any suggestions?

Have you tried luring him with a treat to keep him moving?
Also, try training the look command.  Here's a good video on training look: [linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xkj8pdL9Zuc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xkj8pdL9Zuc[/link]  By using this command, you can keep your dog's nose up off of the ground.  It has a bunch of other uses as well- like distracting and getting them ready for another command.  I use this command all of the time with my beagle, and I don't know where I'd be without it.

My advice would be to just take it slow and try to encourage him to come to you rather than drag him.  Maybe try and walk him in an area where there's not a lot of stuff on the ground, like on a sidewalk, if there's one by you.  In my experience, most puppies want to walk around with their noses burried in the ground but do the best to train them to atually walk and they eventually grow out of it.  My youngest pit, who's almost 2 now used to be horrible about doing that.  She eventually just stopped doing it but she will still go crazy if there's food on the ground and I'm still struggling to train her to just leave it.  Her personality is a PIG so that makes it even worse, lol.  But "leave it" is a good comand to teach- very useful! good luck

Try to remember he's just a baby.  They need encouragement - it's a scary and interesting new world they're in. [:)]   This is common and it goes away soon, so don't make a production out of it.
Lure him with a really stinky treat, and attach a cue like "let's go" if he comes forward a step or two.
