Dog hates rain !

Seems Prancer does not like going out in the rain.

I've been praising Prancer saying YEYYYYYYYYY PEE-PEES !!!! GOOD GIRL (or Yeyyyyyy Poo-Poo's whichever it is LOL) each time she potties outside. Last night it was raining fairly hard and Prancer refused to walk out the door. So I took a leftover puppy pad (which I had bought when my last dog started getting sick) and put it down on the covered porch. I pointed to it and said "ok, pee-pee's" - Prancer looked at me like "HUH ????". I pointed and said it again and lo and behold she went to the pad and urinated on it. I was SHOCKED - she actually understood what I wanted. Makes me wonder how many other things she knows that I just don't give her credit for.

I just hope I haven't started a "trend" of urinating on the porch !

As long as you ONLY limit Prancer to going on the pad, you shouldn't have a problem. I also make going in the rain a game. I go out right when I can tell it's going to rain. I hop around on either foot and get all excited. Make a big deal about being outside with you. When it starts to rain, play tuggy, or fetch or something to distract her.

When you have gigantuan puddles, I put on some crappy clothes and some flip flops, take Joy outside and splash in the puddles. I have little floating toys that she pounces...etc. I train in the rain, I play in the rain, and sometimes I just sit in the rain. I even roll around in mud if it makes Joy happier to be outside.

Heleigh - you're a better person that I am ! Personally I don't like the rain either. But I do see your point in that it can become an issue if she'll never go out in the rain ... and I'll work with her on that, thanks to your post.

Heleigh, I just tried picturing myself doing what you do in the rain, I just can't see it![sm=smack.gif] But it would be a great video if I ever did it! Thankfully both of our dogs love the rain![sm=dance.gif]
