Where should I house my Corgi puppy if am out at work?
Right now, I am in between jobs so I can watch him during the day. He is leashed to me or to something sturdy in a room where I am doing something. But the time will come when he has to stay home alone. He has a crate where he sleeps at night. The crate is in the kitchen/family room. He complains if he's not tired yet and if he can see me in the living room. At times, he can really put up a fit when he is in the crate. I have left him in his crate for a few hours but not as long as a regular 8 hour work day.
Can he stay in the crate during an 8 hour work day? I assume not. If that's correct, what suggestions do you have to house him. Outdoors is out of the question. He'll probably get into trouble or trouble will find him. As for indoors, we don't have much selection for a small closed off area.
The kitchen/family room is a pretty open area. There's no laundry room. I suppose the bathroom with a doggy/baby gate (so he doesn't feel so closed in) might be an option if I can puppy proof it. However, this is a bit of an inconvenience since we only have two bathrooms and the other bathroom located in the master bedroom. My elder aunt lives here and it might be a bit of a hassle for her to use the master bathroom. I suppose I can also close off an area of the hallway with a baby/doggy gate but there are also towel cabinets in there that he has already gotten into. Again, that may be an option if I can figure out how to protect the cabinets; bitter apple didn't seem to work. I bought one of those fold out play pens but they don't seem appropriate for long periods indoors as they don't appear sturdy for that type of use so I returned it to the store; it also seems small at about 4 feet wide (is it too small?).
Are there any other suggestions for creating an area for him or perhaps products that might be helpful? Of course, this is all assuming that leaving him in his crate for 8 hours is not a good idea.
