Is it bad for her to hold it too long???

Daisy pretty much since she was 10 weeks old has been able to go through the night without haveing an accident.  We take her out at about 10:00pm and then again at 5:30am when I get up.  Now just this last week my husband has started working away, so he is not able to go home during the day to take Duke and Daisy for a walk.  Duke is totally fine with this, he is 1 1/2 yrs old and would prefer to just sleep while I am at work & never has an accident while I am away.  Daisy is baby gated to our very small bathroom.  She has her crate in there with her water and a pee mat which she always has gone on when for some reason DH can't get home.

Anyways, the last few days I have been gone for about 7 hours and come home to find that Daisy has held it for the whole time.  No pee or poop!  I run her outside and she goes right away and you can tell that she really had to go.  I am worried that she is holding it too long!  She has her pee mat and I don't mind her using it.  Do you think this could harm her in any way?

OH ~  I forgot to mention that she is just about 4 mnths old.

Good for Daisy for being able to hold it!! Give her a good belly rub for me [:)]

Its fine that she learns to hold it, you may not always be able to take her out at the same time, or the second she needs to go out so its good that she can hold it.

The fact that you come home and her pee pad is dry and she goes outside is a sign of starting to mature and having better bladder control.

All I can say is good girl!!

By the way you havent posted pictures of those pups in such a long time!! You should really post pics! [:)]

Way to go Daisy!!! That's great she is able to hold it that long and not have any accidents. I'm home 24/7 with my two, so I don't know how they would do if I was gone 6-8hrs. Dugan would probably be OK, but little Maddie must have the bladder the size of a pea. I take them out at least every two hours during the day and most nights at least once. She goes every time I take her out. She still doesn't let me know when she has to go outside yet, like her brother (he rings a bell). The only problem I'm having with Maddie is she always seems to find 5min. in the evening when I'm preparing dinner for my family to sneak off in the living room and leave me a little present on the carpet. I never catch her in the act, so I can't really correct her, but she knows I'm not happy with her. Maddie's about 5mths. now.
How often do your Dogs have a BM? Dugan usually will go 2xday and Maddie goes at least 4xday. It's hard to fiqure out her schedule sometimes. Hopefully she will get better soon.

    Thanks Julitza,

I am glad that it is okay, I was just reading some other posts that said that they should only be able to hold it the number of hours as they are months old plus one.  So that means a max of 5 hours (or so I thought).  I am really proud of her, as long as she is okay!

Daisy has changed SOOOO much since the picture below.  I will have to take one of her and Duke and replace it!

Cynacam, you must have posted as I was writing my last post!

When I am home, I too have to take Daisy out at least every 2 hours.  And as soon as the grass touches her little paws she goes.  But I think that while I am out she sleeps so then she doesn't need to go????
She too will still have the odd accident if I am not paying attention.  But I can tell that after she has done it, she knows that she shouldn't have.
Duke has a BM 2 times a day (every once in a while a 3rd time during a walk).  Daisy is at least 4 times.  She goes twice in the morning and then after that it is very speratic.  I havn't gotten used to her cycle.  I can't wait until she is like Duke, I know when he has to go!

Isn't it funny how similar our dogs are? How is Duke behaving lately? Better I hope. Dugan has become a little more "bossy" with his sister. He's always barking and growling at her when they are playing. He's very selfish with his toys and rawhides. The other night I couldn't believe my eyes! Dugan got off the couch when Maddie came up to sit by me, he left the room like his feelings were hurt. He returned and preceded to pee right in front of me! Normally, he rings a bell on the front door. It's just like he did it on purpose to get my attention. He got my full attention for sure!!!!!  He better not try that again. Hope your training continues to go well.

Oh my gosh!  I can't believe he did that!  Sorry, but I am actually laughing so hard right now!
Duke hasn't peed to get my attention yet, but he really doesn't like it when Daisy is allowed on the bed.  She is rarely up there but sometimes in the mornings after her pee I will bring her up for a cuddle.  Duke growls and jumps off the bed!  Its so funny!  I think the main reason he hates it is because he isn't allowed up there any more except for after 5:00am to cuddle, so he figure its his special time!

On a side note - Duke is doing SO awesome!  He has turned into my little angel.  He still has issues with DH, but I think he sees me as head of the pack now.  Havent had him bite me for quite some time now, and he is really listening to my comands. I have fallen in love with him all over again, he is being such a little sweety!
