Creat tranning a puppy

My wife and I adopted a lab puppy a week ago and that is when my probllem started and probly when I made my first mistake. After i picked up Bailey from the vet and we got out the my trick i put him in a kennel so he would be safe on the way home. As soon as I places him in the creat and got the door shut he started barking and clawing at the cage door I mean he went crazzy at one point he was even trying to bite his way thru the door and to this day I can not get him to stay in his creat and I am afraid i my never be able to get him creat trained. What would you suggest trying. Thank for all the help.

Start slow. Take the door off the crate for now.

First try putting just special treats in there for him to retrieve. PRAISE to high heaven when he goes in for them. Same with GREAT toys. You can start feeding him in the crate too. When he is totally comfortable in the crate, as in going in and laying down to eat a treat, then put the door back on, but don't close it. Repeat the first steps. Again, when he is totally comfy, close the door, but only for 30 seconds or so. Then open it before he starts to fuss. You can gradually increase the time as his comfort level increase.
