I live in Northern CA on the coast in a wilderness area. Tonight I let out one of the dogs and heard him barking rather furiously as though he had encountered an animal. He eventually came back but had a strong oder on him; not from a skunk, but from something I could not recognize. He kept his eyes tightly closed and appeared to have something in them.
We washed out his eyes and bathed him; the oder gone and his eyes clear.
Any ideas re what he might have encountered? I imagine an animal sprayed him, but I can't figure out what it might have been.
