the dog whisperer - season 4

    • Gold Top Dog
how'd ya like that fearful jack russel terrier on tonights episode.... the way the owner put on his working gloves to pull the dog out from under the chair - - - - - but what caught my attention was when the 2'cd case showed all about the hiking staff - - - - how it makes you appear more powerful and that it can be used to block dogs from walking out in front of you - - - - - affirmed my suspicion..... and so i'll be off for 3 days in the mountains with my dogs (finally) and the hiking staff.......... and i do hope that michelles cancer goes away completely...... (was carla captivated by that german shepherd?)

Yes I was going to post on this but you beat me to it. I have a few walking sticks that I use while hiking and I was thinking about pulling one out and just seeing how the dogs respond to it. It might come in handy anyway for snakes and coyotes. Coyotes are becoming a bit of a problem here. Dogs are being eaten because people are stupid and are leaving them out at night (with no fence) chaining them in the backyard (no fence) and instead of the coyotes moving on it appears they are coming into the neighborhood in droves.

yep - and it had slipped my mind on the other thread (walk behind me for 7 miles) that i didn't mention that besides the mountain bike safety thing, in the summertime, you really don't want your dogs out front free to bushwhack because our mountains here have lots of rattlesnakes (poison oak too.) -------- an aside..... i had set out this morning with salem and mandi and a loaded backpack...... only to get 100 miles out of town and observe another storm coming in........ so i ditched my backpack plans - AGAIN - arrrrrgh......... i'm beginning to wonder if there's an omen here or sumthin of the sort :)) ------ will try again next weekend ---- it's getting LATE in the season too and it's just a matter of time when the snow doesn't melt away when winter sets in. oh well.

That is a great point espencer.

I enjoyed all of the cases in last nights program. I really enjoyed how he dealt with the fearful dog that was afraid of the stove. I cannot help but wonder why on earth the stove was a "bad" thing to her.

I admired his patience while working with the jack russell. That is one of the  things I admire most about him.

it was the passing of the top cat in the house that marked the "fall"

    • Gold Top Dog

I really admire his pitbull Daddy, with the fearful dog he just ran to him and even when the fearful dog kind of nipped at him he stayed cool, kind of like "hey dude i dont know you but i'm your friend, there is no need for that, lets mingle", Daddy really trusts CM and knows CM will have his back 100%, Daddy only was walking around showing he was there to socialize, when the fearful dog started making a different growl thats when CM intervened, proving to Daddy once again that he will be there for him

oh yeh the cat! I almost forgot about that. I must confess I struggle to grasp the notion of the cat being the leader of the household. Mind you I do not own cats and have never had much to do with them. But that is a stretch for me, the notion of the cat being the dominant leader of the dog.

Yes you can see that there is a lot of trust between Daddy and Cesar, and I am willing to bet that there are very few (if any) who use a male Pit Bull as a calmer for helping other dogs.

we once had a cat that one of our dogs had ultimate respect for (not at first tho).... the respect came right when he got his nose clawed - lol

my DH was just telling me about a cat he used to have that used to chase all the dogs from their yard, he says it would even jump on dog's backs!

If Jade already has a spot on the couch and there's not enough room, Shadow will leave her be and find another spot to lay. Other times, the chase will be on, especially when Jade darts out and takes a swipe at him to get him to chase her. Other times, it's just play. She will swipe at him, he will run away, then come back again so that she can take another swipe.

Iwas just reading about a rumor I had heard that Cesar was closing his dog center, abandoning his dogs and going off to live somewhere new and fancy.

During my search I uncovered the truth behind the rumor:

    http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/dpc/dpctour.php

Seems he will be closing the old center in December and will be opening a new one (undisclosed) where he will be able to live on the premises.

The article also mentions founding a non-profit and doing more extensive work in education and rescue.

amazing how rumors propogate, isn't it?

the new center is going to be in the city of Santa Clarita. he purchased 40 acres up there to expand his facilities and yes, his house will be on the ranch as well.

they're supposed to relocate in december.
