I was thinking that it might be helpful to discuss a few words and what those words mean to us, and why we do or do not like them. How are they used within the dynamics of our own packs (or single dog). Is there anything "bad" about the word, as in can it lead people to assume something that perhaps we do not do within our on packs but others might?
I would like to do this without discussing any trainer or any trainer#%92s method specifically although it would be okay to reference a trainer if needed to explain you definition.
The purpose of this exercise is to assist us in better understanding each other, I think we have made progress in other threads and this might be useful in furthering that process. Preventing the discussion of trainers and their methods specifically will assist us in not falling into the rut of the "us against them" or "them against us" pit that we often fall into.
I can honestly say that having defended Cesar and being someone that enjoys his program and still believes he has done a great deal of good for dogs, I am understanding some of the "issues" that people have with him. I was in a thread the other day (cannot remember where) where someone had two dogs one an older dog and one a newer dog (younger) and this person was asking about aggression issues since the older dog was growling at the new dog and the first post suggested that the owner should roll the older dog on its back in the presence of the younger and thus force the older dog to submit to he new one as the entire problem was the older dog is trying to dominate you and the new dog.
Okay even I can admit that is not really good advice.
Some of the words we might discuss could be "alpha", "dominant". Submissive", "positive only" etc. I am open to discussing any word or phrase that may assist us all in understanding what we really mean when we use one of these words or phrases.
The purpose is not to prove or disprove any theory or method but to enlighten us all on what someone we perceive to be on "the other side" truly means.
I will start a thread and see how it goes.
