A dog rolling in play is different from a dog rolling out of aggression. The roll-ee actually goes down more or less on their own to "help" the game out. But, oh. Nevermind. I'm not a "professional" so my opinion doesn't count anyway.

I think the reason that rough housing doesn't break out into a full fledged fight at times would be, because we, the owners break it up when it gets too rough.

I still think there is "Force " involved.
Not all breeds are the same, that would be something to keep in mind.[;)]

I would also like to add that some breeds are more aggressive than others.

Chuffy, that is the reason I have been trying to find out what breeds are in your household.
All of us bring their experience with their respective breeds, my experince has been with GSDs, Huskies, Mal., and mixes, even a Chow mix.

Snownose, I think you asked that same question of Chuffy 4 times in the thread 'Did you Dump the Dominance Theory' about her current household.

Chuffy stated her history experience includes Cairns, JRTs, a beagle, a lab mix, a bull terrier, a staffy mix, a collie mix and a rottie.  I think in another thread I thought it was currently one dog and it was a small dog.  I may be wrong.  Hope this helps you.

In my house there are 3 Great Danes, 2 old females and one young male.  I also bring in 2-3 fosters and are presently caring for a Treeing Hound and a Pittie mix.  My pack changes every 3 months so I am exposed to a lot of different dog situations and the resulting behavior.  With the fosters it a crapshoot because I am given no information on the breed or temperament other than its a large dog.  I mostly rely on my experiences in handling of the dogs and the pack to do a lot of the teaching and discipline.

I didn't think it was a matter of "National Security"....[:D]

You are right, taking in rescues is a crap shoot.[;)]

I was interrupted during my post.

I have a lot of exposure to different dogs and the circumstances of rescues gives me a lot of time with the dog to observe its behavior and the dog#%92s change in behavior when human or pack apply their influences.  I don#%92t have a lot of scientific knowledge and that is why I participating in this forum.  I have enough dog common sense to determine what scientific knowledge is relevant to a home but I do appreciate people opinions/interpretations and I enjoy their passionate stances.

Currently my focus is on the emotional aspects within dogs and how humans interpret their feelings.  The currently thinking does not work for me.  This is driven by having an SA dog where I feel helpless to truly help or change its distressing situation.  Sure I can change its behavior and I have done so, but I believe I have not truly affected the measure of anxiety.  Which makes me so sad.

Just be careful that the "science" your reading is accurate.

Once you have changed the behavior you must allow time for all of the effects to take place. For some dogs this can be a very long process. Good luck.
