People Magazine Article on CM

As much I  enjoy Cesar and have learned a lot from him I would LOVE to have a show with Ian Dunbar or any of the popular positive trainers too!!

I hope they don't replace Cesar just add another show.  I could watch dog training shows everynight and not get boared and certainly learn something each time.

    I say BRING THEM ON!!

I agree! I think people should get the chance to look at some of the other methods of training out there.

Oh, I remember one show that made my skin crawl.

It was called "Who gets the dog?". There was a trainer, and a vet, and I believe a writer on this pannel. The dog in each episode was a very poorly selected shelter dog which was treated as a game show prize. The dog went to three different homes overnight, was taught a couple of simple tricks under the guidence of the trainer, and then the pannel picked the "best" family for the dog to go live with.

It was truely awful! The body language and confusion in some of the dogs was really sad. The people were encouraged to interact in a very spoily, excited, and whimpering fashon with the dogs.

One of the dogs was so poorly screened and food aggressive, it almost bit a little kid. [:o]

    Yeah, Brad Pitt sounds good.

Just heard from a friend that People magazine has an article on Cesar - seems some trainers find him barbaric and abusive (when/how?) - and that National Geographic is going to sponsor a "gentle dog trainer" - [:'(]

People often criticize what they don't and can't understand. And there will always be whiners out there, if someones not doing things *their* way.

I e-mailed NGC (see their website) and told them how I feel about CM and their reaction to this article.  Hope you guys will join me.

Frankly, I think there are a lot of trainers who are jealous of his success!!!!![:@]

I'm not worried that his show will be pulled, and People's mag, LOL nothing but rubbish, so who cares. I don't know if they "jealous" but they are a bunch of whiners. Personally I'd like to see other shows along with CM's with different methods. The more info people have the better decisions they can make.

They could call the show "Pitt Bull".

Points to you, Anne, for a well-turned pun.

    Shakespeare would be proud.

Me too. Interesting to see different trainers work with the same dog... wouldn't be fair to a dog though.

Did saying that make you feel all warm and cozy inside? How sad. I'm sorry admins, and you can certainly delete this post, but is the poster doing anything other than taking a cheap shot at CM?

Awsome considering that you obviously have the complete wrong end of this particular stick...lol, allow me to help you out.

I just posted a second before this post saying what a nice guy and how charismatic CM was, lol. Commenting on how a perceived "hardcore science" channel....can also have programming solely for entertainment and to make people think, is hardly a cheap shot at Cesar, it's a statement that the programming on NGC is wide enough in scope that a dog training show not based on hard science but on spirit and energy, with a charismatic and may I mention it adorable host...fits right in..

No need to apologize to me...an Admin, I see no reason to remove your post personally [;)]

Then both professionals can call the dog at the same time and who ever the dog goes to is the better professional.

    Ha Ha Ha!! [:D]

Most of these people had no business owning a shelter dog with problems, at the very least the ones with kids.....good grief.....

WOW some people on here are way too sensitive about CM stuff.

I think all RW was saying is - this show is made to be entertaining, and not everything on NGC has to be purely scientific.

Anyway.... I sadly don't get NGC, but I also wish there were more training programs on. I would probably watch CM if I got that channel, just because I like dog shows and it would be neat to see the "case studies". I would also like to see a show targeted towards the serious dog-loving crowd (like the people here on this forum), you know - people who research and discuss training issues regularily, not just average Joe. That way we could skip the "general public entertainment" stuff and discuss more in-depth things like shaping, etc.

That sounds horrible. [&o] It's amazing what people will do....

If I misread your post then I absolutely owe you a apology and it would be wrong for me not to do so. It just sounded at the time (at least to me) that you were comparing his show and what he does, to shows about UFO's and so on.

For me, it's not just Cesar, I can't stand to hear any trainer who does their best to make the world a better place for dogs get slammed. I see that I misunderstood the post and have retracted, and apologized for my comment.

Houndlove - I am all for gentle training - that is my biggest focus in my practice - and I admit, that I would not take on some of the overtly aggressive dogs that CM works with.  And, after saying that, there is a time for tough love with some dogs.  And that is what CM does - he wants those dogs to be rehabilated and not euthanized.  Right now I am working with a Weimeraner and a Lab pup - you can find me on the floor getting  lots of puppy kisses and playing silly games.  With me gentleness comes first and hopefully last!!!!!![:)]

LMAO rwbeagles, I just realized you are a MOD, I tend to look at what's written (obviously misunderstanding at imes) and not who's writing it. Thanks for understanding I was misunderstanding you. And thanks for not deleting it, it helps to remind me of that fact.
    • Gold Top Dog
    Awsome, not a problem.

And, by no means does my being a co-mod mean I can take "cheap shots" at anyone...lol. I'm accountable like anyone else here (the big boss Jaime would come calling, lol) for what I type.

I re-read my post and I can see how you easily could have misunderstood, so I too apologize for not being clearer.

I think we both should be good to go from here on out [;)]
