I'm new here, what are your thought about the dog whisperer?

I think what bothers me is this:

I've seen a lot of people get on the internet and just assume that everyone in the world is in love with Cesar Millan. Because he's very popular and has a TV show if you never hung out before with a large variety of "dog people" you might have never heard that he's a very controversial figure and not everyone loves him and in fact some people really really dislike what he does.

Putting this question in this area is just asking for this view to be perpetuated to this person. Since no one who disagrees is allowed to post here, the OP is going to come away thinking that sure 'nuff, everyone loves Cesar Millan. And that is clearly not true! [;)]

There is nothing in Jamie's Rules about this CM Discussions forum that limits discussion of Cesar Millan anywhere else on the board. Rather, it states that this is a conflict-free zone designed for people who are pro-Cesar Millan--a place where members that do not agree with CM's methods are not invited.

Well there is a 7 pages long thread that already talks about this issue and actually Jamie takes part of, maybe you can find there the answers you are looking for  [;)]

I think you should give the OP a tad more credit than that.  One would have to seriously limit their search to conclude that there is no disagreement with Millan's methods.  My understanding of Jaime's request is simply that if you do disagree with his methods, that you don't post that disagreement in this particular part of the forum.  Of course, I could be wrong.  [;)]

I would advice the OP to do a search and go back to really old behavior threads from like 2 or 3 months ago (specially the ones that were locked down and before this area existed) and check what the people was saying about CM, a clue would be that this area was created for a reason  [;)]

***Edited because i did the search myself and here are a couple links to threads that were talking about CM and were locked down

There is nothing in the "rules" that says that CM cannot be mentioned elsewhere--the point of the separate CM section is to segregate discussions about CM that do not want to be subject to debate.

That is my understanding as well. If the subject of CM is posted in anyother area other than "CM Discussions" than the topic is up for grabs and any and all opinions are exceptable. I think the CM area is a needed addition, but it certainly does not mean that is the only area to discuss CM. I'm not sure why this particular thread was moved. Maybe Jamie can enlighten us.

And I know this is just a dog forum and everything, but I am flabbergasted by this. The original idea as laid out by the rules--a no-dissent zone specifically created for pro-Cesar Millan people--is bad enough. It treats Cesar Millan and his practices and his show as an issue that cannot be discussed in an intellectually stimulating way, and the people who want to discuss his show is incapable of handling any back-and-forth.

I totally agree with this statement fisher6000.   We should be able to have intelligent discussion and debate about any trainer and method.

But if you take a look to the links i posted before that means we cant, we should, but we cant

Jaime has been very clear that any forum member is welcome to post anywhere they danged well please but IF they choose to enter the CM zone they might get bitten.  It was specifically because of the attitudes of CM fans that the special section become neccessary.  When those of us who do not bow down to CM state our views and are name called time and time again, then it became clear that some lines had to be drawn to keep the entire forum from turning into a battleground.

And, espencer, just so you know, when I posted, I did not put down anyone or anything, and at that time I wasn't in your precious little area.  I have as much right to post here, on this thread, as anyone else on the forum and by golly, especially in light of the fact that I'm not trying to start any trouble, I'll be danged if I'll be run off.

    For the rest...wise up!

    Wise up?

Respectfully, your set of rules says nothing about what can be said on other areas of the forum. It only states that this area of the forum is for pro-Cesar Millan people, and that it is a confict-free zone because people who "practice other methods" are not invited.

Wise up... as in not keeping this personal debate going, acting in a rude way to a new member. The behavior was not welcoming or called for in the exchange regarding the topic

Well that "precious little area" is yours too, so feel welcome to post in here anytime you want  [:)]  i never said you were not allowed to post anywhere, i wanted to avoid turning this thread into something ugly like it happened 100% of the times before, even when you didnt say anything bad you were "adding" gas to a potential "fire" that could be lighted up by someone else, that's why i didnt even posted my own opinion there, it seems that you were new and never saw what it could happen if we were keep talking about it there, funny since you sometimes wanted everybody to calm down when it was too late [;)]

The thread was moved for the title and content.

There is no "RULE" that those who believe in other methods of training are not welcome, the only rule is to respect everyone involved.

So continue on -ON TOPIC or the posts will be edited for off topic and eventually this thread will end up closed as so many others....debate can be done in a civil manner as well as mind opening
