Do I need to have my Siberian Put down Friday?

Not every dog can, or should, be saved. It is easy for others to tell someone to continue to live with a dangerous dog - but most ordinary pet owners, and even pet professionals are not equipped to do so. Sometimes, it has nothing to do with their abilities, but rather, their life circumstances and who they live with, or where they live. I get just as mad as anyone when the issues that force a dog to be rehomed or euthanized are trivial, but aggressiveness that has a dog biting to the bone is not trivial, and the liability of owning such a dog cannot be overlooked. Having taken the steps of consulting a vet and a behaviorist, I feel that our OP has been responsible to that extent, and the decision was probably still not easy.

I personally know that not all dogs can be saved......I think something might have gone wrong in the raising of this dog, as this breed is not known to be super aggressive. I wanted to make sure that people understand that some dogs are not cut out for an environment that includes children or smaller dogs, or even cats.

In my defense, I wanted to make sure people understand that there are people who know how to deal with a dog of this nature.....and maybe, just maybe ....this dog didn't have a chance because of it's aggressive nature.

I am sorry, because the OP had to make this tough decision.............

    Wonderful post - agree 100%.

To the OP, terribly sorry for your loss. Could not have been easy.

    Ric-
My condolences on the circumstances and loss of your dog.  Having worked around dangerous dogs and the decisions to euthanize them, I can relate to how awful the final choice can be.

I am sorry for the pain you have endured and I grieve with you the loss of the hopes you had for your dog, and his life with you.

IMO huskies are one of the toughest alpha dogs out there. But bad behavior can in most cases be corrected with the right methods.

As long as he has no problem receiving treats from your hand, try 'hand feeding' him dry food, obeying a command for every couple pieces. this is the NILIF way :) He will unconciously become dependant on you as the alpha for all his resources and shouldn't 'bite the hand that feeds him'

I know how hard it can be to face the decision of putting him to sleep. My husky bit my uncle when i was younger and it was partially his fault, But my parents freaked! my mom was pregnant at the time and insisted she be put down for safety's sake before she bites the kids.

i always regretted letting that be done. i of course couldn't do much, but at the time it scared us, and made us feel like we were next. But looking back, she never would of hurt us. Make sure that it is the very last resort for euthenasia. i would only use it to end suffering. nowadays, its used because owners give up.

obviously you have a hard decision to make, its yours to make. he cannot be re-homed except maybe to a husky rescue, for people who handle those situations.

    Good luck

Your story is so sad. I'm so sorry! It seems to me that you have tried your hardest, and  I give you so much credit.
Please don't say you won't get another.... please don't end your enjoyment of having a dog with an experience like this one.
