Male on Male issues

I'm sure nobody is trying to "attack" you, and I know you said that neutering is not an option, but it's not really just the breeding side of things.

Sure, there are too many Goldens around nowadays. When we moved and my mom agreed to let us get a dog, we didn't know what breed to choose - Shelties? Border Collies? Goldens? Then there was some accident at with my friend's two dogs, where the male got the bitch pregnant, and then the dog gave birth to 9 puppies. They offered to give us one, and we sat down and all discussed it and we decided not to accept the offer, because first of all my not-very-dog-lover dad thought they were too big, and secondly, because Goldens are everywhere, and I'd just gotten so sick of see GOLD FUR in the past few years. So then we got Toffee.

But also, it's just so much better for his health. When we first got Toffee, my sister was adamant about not getting him fixed, because she said he could have puppies. But obviously my dog is not good for breeding, so after 4 years we convinced her to let us get him fixed. Four years. And then after the operation his blood didn't clot properly, so he had some internal bleeding which then led to three weeks of hospitalization.

Thank to everyone who said it couldn't be done. you said I would never get a dog-park-dog out of Max. but I'm glad to say you were all wrong!
I took him to the park today, and he was fine. we spent a few good hours there and males came and males went. I was a little fearful at first but the other owners assured me it would be ok. so off the leash he went to meet everyone.
you said it was impossible. I'm proud to say you were all wrong.

there is only one dog I'm leary over. he's a pup and lives with us. he'll sit and put his paws on Max, Max dosen't like it so much,. if they are just out togeather he's fine. but it's physcial interation Max dosen't like with him.

Huh. Do you really think you know what you are talking about? An accident is waiting to happen and I hope you have enough money in the bank to cover for an accident like this. I think you are being an irresponsible owner who has no clue what things you are going to do that will put someone at the risk.

Who cares if your dog has an AKC paper, it does not mean he is better than the westiminester golden retreiver.

honestly, who can trust any dog, I say i trust my dog with my life and all my other animals, but they are all animals.  no matter what people do to them they will always have a bit of the wild side left in them.  people say that only the purebred dogs should be bred, in that case how will the poor working class family be able to get a dog from a breeder.  not every one can shell out hundreds of dollars to get a dog.  AKC and all of those other breed registries mean nothing to the little girl or boy that got their first puppy.  yes we have way too many animals, 16 million put down each year, but if spay and neutering were cheaper more people would do it.  if people didnt say hey you need to get your animal spayed go fork out the money and instead said hey these are the places and resources i know, why do you want to so breed your animal, do you ahve homes for your animals.  dont point fingures, it makes people resent.  help inform and solve the larger problem.

If you don't have the money to afford a dog from reputable breeder, then you probably will not have the finances to properly care for a dog. On the other hand, if you are one of the few who have the money to properly care for a dog, but cannot afford the large up front cost of a reputable breeders puppies, rescues usually charge very little (generally the cost of spay/neuter) and they need homes. But, I do not agree with someone breeding their dog unless they have done:

    • all the proper research about their breed of choice
    • have done all appropriate testing (a vet's nod of approval does NOT count)
    • have shown your dog and proven him/her to be an excellent example of the breed
    • have researched and selected a great match in a sire/dame (one that will help better the breed when bred with yours)
    • already have homes lined up for all the potential puppies before you let the dogs do the deed
    • have helped with another reputable breeder's pups being born so you know what to expect. Also have read all the things that could happen when your pups are being born so you know what to do if something happens.
    • anything else that I'm sure I'm forgetting because I have not done all the things that are required to be a reputable breeder.

You said it yourself. "yes we have way too many animals, 16 million put down each year". There is absolutely no reason to needlessly add more to those already outrageous numbers.
