Hi All -
My husband & I have a fem. beagle a little over a year old - her name is Daly. We're going to be going out of town for a couple of nights both this month and next month & we've made arrangements for her to stay with my parents during that time. She has been to their house & even spent the night several times, but always with my husband and me. My parents also visit our place once in a while, so she's pretty familiar with them. My problem is that she is very attached to myself & my husband. She barks, howls, whines, yips & generally freaks out whenever we leave her. Occasionally she tears things up while we're gone (carpet, doors, etc.). It goes on for hours. I'm afraid things will be too rough on her & my parents while they have her. They are very understanding & willing to take her on - they know what they're in for. They also love the dog, which goes a LONG way. But I'm afraid Daly will have a hard time with it. She was abandoned by her original owners & we just adopted her about 2 mos. ago. She had a case of separation anxiety which appears to be much better, and I worry that our leaving her will cause her to regress.
We're taking Daly to my parents' tomorrow & dropping her off just for the day. She'll be there several hours without us. I'm hoping that will help & she'll be more prepared when we have to leave her for the weekend. I'd do this more often, but my parents live more than an hour away, which makes it nearly impossible (considering work, school, etc.).
Any suggestions on how to ease the time away from us? We really can't take her with us or we would.
Thanks everyone -
Nicole
