I love my little terrier dearly, but today he really pushed it.
Joey and I did alot today. In the morning we went to the beach and then in this evening my husband and I took him to a very unpopulated park. My husband and I were throwing a foot ball back and forth while Joey hung out around us. Suddenly he decided he wanted to play too, which was odd because he has never wanted to play outside before. He usually just sniffs around and runs. We were thrilled and even let him break our football just so he'd play with us. We've recently put Joey in obedience classes and thought this oportunity would be a great time for training, so we made him sit before we'd throw the football. After a while he stopped responding to our commands, so I reached for his leash to use the training collar, which is a cloth and chain choker. That's when he growled as me.
I was so mad and hurt that I yanked hard on his leash 3 times yelling "no." Then I gave the leash to my husband and walked towards the car. To Joey, I am his world and I thought that walking away from him would be the worst punishment.
This is not the first time he has growled at me. The reason why we started obedience training was because he growled at me after I caught him getting into the garbage. That particular time, I was in the wrong because I cornered him. Along with obedience training we also use the NILIF method.
I don't know what else to do. Advice? Please.
