    bullie puppies and chickens

We have just adopted 2 puppies a male and female from the same litter. They are 9 weeks old. There mother is dalmation and blue heeler, the dad a pure bred sheltie. I have observed both parents and they are nice dogs as are our puppies but...we have 10 chickens and they are truly being bullies, I don't think they mean harm but the chickens are such fun to chase and when they catch one they chew on her feathers but they never draw blood. How can I teach the pups not to bother the chickens?? Thanks for any help.    joanne

Put leashes on them until they learn a solid "leave it". I wouldn't allow them to chase the chickens. Ever. Heelers, Dals, and Shelties are all pretty drivey dogs. You don't want  your puppies learning to kill chickens.

Isn't there anyway to keep them seperated?  At least until they are a bit older and they understand "the rules."  Plus I would worry about the possibility of disease from the chicken feces.  (Not that your chickens aren't healthy but that bacteria is everywhere!)

The simple solution is to keep them away from the chickens.
Also, it really isn't a great idea to adopt siblings.  The danger is that they will bond more closely to each other than to the humans in the pack.  And, especially if you allow them to engage in predatory behavior at this young age, you will have lots of problems...
Please enroll the pups asap in a puppy kindergarten class *separately*.  This is very important.  It is also important to train them both together and separately (mostly separately at the beginning) at home.
