    Acting out or boredom?

    Hello Everyone,
It's kind of hard to describe my situation but I'll try to sum it up quickly. For 8 years, I stayed at home with my dad taking care of him till he passed. Now I have the chance to have somewhat of a social life. I don't think my dog is taking this to well. For the past two weeks I've been coming home late but still staying home durring the day with him.

When I came home this week, this is the things he's done: garbage can diving, eating from litter box, and going to the bathroom in the same spot . Tonight he did both in the same spot and I walked right into it.

Im not sure what to do. I tried to read some of the previous posts on this and I can sort of understand the garbage thing. We've had him for a long time but, he's never ate out of the can or gotten into it. And he's always went in front of the door if no one can wake up to let him out. But the litter box thing is new that I know of. I know I have to lock them up but I just want to know if he's lashing out for me not being home like I used to?

Thanks so much in advanced for helping me with my issue.

    Your new friend, Holli

No. Dogs simply don't think that way. He doesn't sound completely "house-trained"-- with you not around he doesn't know what his boundaries are. I'd suggest that when you go out in the evening you confine him to one dog-proofed room while you work on improving his potty habits and leaving-the-garbage alone. Put the litter box somewhere he can't get at. The effort of training dogs to stay out of litter boxes is just not worth it, especially since you can easily just move it and correct the problem.

Well he's atleast 8 years old I think. And he's not fully house trained? He doesn't go in the house, cept as of late he has been.

The trash an litter bin are up where he can't get into it and I've left dog food out durring the day AND evening now.

I'm going to cut back my hours of play but not sure if he was acting out.

My sister trains german shepards. She thinks he's just not used to the schedule. He still goes out his regular times, and even when I get home late. Just a bizarre trip he's been going through

    Thanks for your reply
