    Jumping

Can anyone give me tips on teaching a Beagle puppy not to jump up on people?  My parents have a 4 month old pup, and she's really very good except for this.  Thanks in advance.

I think a spray bottle should do the trick. Everytime the pup jumps, spray her and say 'no' at the same time. Beagles are smart pups and she should get it very quickly

one thing to keep in mind....
Consistency is key. You must discipline your dog EVERY time he jumps up. You cannot pick and choose when you will allow your dog jumping and when you won#%92t. (dogs get confused about behavior if you're not consistent)

I don't like using the word no.  It doesn't tell them what I want them TO do, just tells them that I don't like what they are doing.  I would say OFF, wait a second for compliance and THEN a little spritz with the water bottle if I don't get it.  See, telling them OFF gives them a direction or command...telling them NO doesn't.

You can also turn your back on the pup when he jumps. He is jumping to get your attention and greet you. He thinks that is the proper way to say hello. So give him your back for a second, turn back around tell him to sit, and kneel down at his level and give him affection while you are kneeling and he is at ground level. It will teach him that he only gets a response from you if he is behaving. If you are having guests over warn them ahead of time, tell them to do the same. Most guests would be happy to oblige!
If you've ever seen a pack of wolves in action you will see the alpha stand stoic and still and ALLOW the younger pups to come and greet them by givig them kisses on their face. That is what your puppies instinst, thats how they pay respect to there superior.
