    What a whiner!

    Hi everyone,

Just brought my GSMD puppy home last night.  She's gorgeous and very playful.  One problem I'm starting to notice, though, is she's constantly whining.  I didn't think much of it at the breeder yesterday, but after I got home I thought back to my last dog and how he never whined (unless he was alone in the cage, which is understandable).

Even when I hold her, pet her, or play with her she'll whine occasionally.  I know she doesn't need food or water.  Is it just a case of her being nervous in her new home?  Or is there something I can do to calm her down?

german shepherd mixed dog?  How old is the pup?  If he's too young that might be why he's whining so much.

Nope, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (too long to type out each time!)

I figured it might be an age thing, but like I said my last puppy didn't whine nearly as much.  Hopefully she'll grow out of it soon.

If it doesn't stop within a day or so, a trip to the vets may be warranted.  She might have a gassy stomach or something along those lines.  Sometimes puppies full of worms will also whine.

True.  But how old IS she?

She's just over two months old right now.  I have noticed when she's outside she eats a little bit of grass, and I know dogs typically do that when sick, or is that a common behavior in puppies?

Some pups are just naturally whiny, my little mutt was that way, and she grew out of it.

BUT I would definately check her out with the vet to rule out any problems such as worms. If there is nothing wrong she will grow out of it

Some dogs take up to two weeks to become comfortable in their surroundings, and young puppies whine anyway.... just try to be a good mommy.[:)]

She might have colic. Or it might be just a puppy thing.

Remember she has just left her mum, and gone to a totally different enviroment. It can take a couple of weeks for some to settle. At night put a shirt in her bed with your scent on it this might help. Give her a couple of nights even try a tick tock clock in her bed it will sound like her mothers heart beat, this might calm her also.

As for the grass dogs don't only eat it when they are sick. I would take her to the vet to get a check up. Especially if she hasn't been wormed and had her needles. This is a must.
