dogs, just like people only know what they're taught. some are naturally agressive due to their breeding, pit bulls are a working breed and enjoy being put to work and pulling sleds and stuff. but also like people some dogs have mental instabilities. the difference is that dogs are easier to correct when it happens. but it takes severe persistance and know-how. anyone whos finding they are having a problem with their pit, or any dog for that matter can contact me for pointers.

I've only ever been bit by two dogs. One was a Jack Russell, and the other was my friend's dog, a ;pit/catahoula mix. Both were my fault. The Jack Russell bit me because I was stupid and tried to pet it when it was growling at me, and the pit mix bite is a bit of a longer story, but still my fault. Both once I knew them were excellent dogs and I'm now not afraid of either of them. Bailey, the mix, has bitten after that incident but only to protect my friend. (Her dad is an abusive drunk a good percentage of the time.) Therefore he was "put down" (read as 'shot') by my friend's dad. Don't get me wrong I think pits are great dogs, and I'm not trying to say that all pits bite a lot, but that's just my personal experience with one of them. Anyway here's a picture of him:

being bit by a dog doesnt mean you were at fault, no its not too bright to try to pet a dog thats growling at you, but at the same time what was the reason the dog was growling at you? the owner of the dog is almost always at fault even though you dont want to blame them. the only time the owner isnt to blame is when its a puppy and they're not even old enough to have learned different, but of course at that agethose little puppy teeth dont hurt much.

Absolutely, ban the birds - don't you know you can never trust a pigeon?  I hear they have locking beaks.

Hey! I was seriously scared of birds when I was little cause my older cousin told me if I was bad they would make a nest in my jair and I would never get them out, haha!

So you seen some bad pitbulls, big deal, I seen some bad other dogs. It's how most dogs get raised & if they ever been use for fighting  & then you try to change them. I have several pits & mine will lick you to dead. I just don't know what this thing is about licking. If someone try to hurt some one in my family & it was a stranger yes I think my dog might bite. But so do shepherd & rottie & other dogs as well. But if you really want to learn a lot about pitbulls go here. They will answer any questions you ask some people are trainers of pits & they are very nice people.

No, not all pitbulls are aggressive.  I believe it is how well they are trained.  If you look up pitbulls on the internet, they are actually pretty mellow dogs.  They're only instinct to fight, is when they are being attacked or threatened.  They don't usually make the first move.  They're great w/ kids and really one of the best kinds of dogs you can own.  It's just all the negative stories you read about or hear on the news that give these poor dogs a bad name.  You should have a great dog on your hands, as long as you're willing to put in the time (w/ patience) in training your pup!  Good Luck!

No way are all pitbulls aggressive. My mum used to train dogs and she taught me from young age that it's all to do with how you raise the dog. Assuming you get them young of course (as you did) it should not be a problem. I find it sad that people are prejudiced towards some breeds of dogs like Pitbull. Enjoy your puppy fgv425 :) I am sure you will raise him well as you cared enough to join this wonderful forum and ask for advice.

The truth about Pit bulls...they're afraid of Frenchies

And rightfully so!  (wink) My friend's Frenchie regularly tried to bite the nose off of any Doberman I had with me.  (Mine, my parents, my ex-BF's)

luvpits - I have a pitty in my family now, too - and she is a licker, also. (A submissive/apologetic thing?)  She came from some guy down the street, pregnant, companion to some nasty male pit, I'm told.  Who knows how she was raised, but she is super sweet with people.  She accepted my dog just fine - although she does love to push her around and sit on her - literally.  She's very vocal and likes to run and chase other dogs at the dog park - sometimes scaring their owners with her sharp growly bark.  She is going to learn a much better recall once we start her formal obedience training next week -yahoo!  Looking forward to seeing pics of your pit!
