    In love with the Dishwasher?

Umm ok this might sound a bit weird, but for the last few weeks my 18 month old Border Collie has developed a strange obsession with the dishwasher. She stands and walks around it, usually she looks as though she's listening for something, she drools, she licks it, and whenever I walk into the house she leads me over to it. I can't understand why, after 18 months she has started doing this. And she doesn't act any differently if it's open or on. All I can think of is that a while ago we saw a mouse in there, although she didn't see it. So maybe she can here mice? I really don't know.

Anyway any thoughts on why she might be doing this would help.
    Thanx :)

hehehe.......she smell a pork chop stuck in there.....jk.  Don't know what it is but there probably is something that attracks your dog to that spot.   [:D]

Maybe something to do with her reflection?

My dog used to want to kill the dog that lived in the dishwasher.

    haha...

I did think maybe it could be something like that but she can't see her reflection in it.

My vote is on a mouse in the house[:)].  We have an occasional mouse crawling around the water pipes, and both my cat and dog alert me when they are under the dishwasher.  The cat hangs around the dishwasher more than the dog, but Jezzy is not allowed to bother the cat, so Kanga gets to hog the mouse watching/listening posts. LOL

This was my crew the last time we had a mouse in the house.

Edited: No harm was done to any animals in this picture.  The cat laid down, and the mouse crawled under her!  Now, Jezz might have done something had I let her into the tub, but I managed to run them both out, and my husband took the mouse out into the pasture when he got home and let him go. Some mouser my cat is *sigh*[:)]

I agree with the mouse thing, she may be able to hear something in there that you cant for parts of the day so hangs around there waiting to see.

Another thought... maybe she finds the sound soothing and wants you to turn it on...? lol.  Far fetched, but a thought.

    lol. You never know.

Yeah I do think that maybe it is something she can here that I can't. I just find it a bit odd with how much she hangs around it. I mean if she was ever left alone inside before we'd get home and the house would be torn to shreds. Now we just find her standing at the dishwasher?!?!

I would bet my bottom dollar you have mice. My dog actually caught a mouse IN the dishwasher.

One day I opened the dishwasher door and a mouse looked at me like 'HEY!! CLOSE THE DOOR YA EEJIT!!"

I slammed the door and told my (now ex-) husband "There's a mouse in the dishwasher!" He didn't believe me until the same thing happened to him a few days later!

Whenever I'm doing the dishes, Winston will race over to help me load the dishwasher.  He likes to lick whatever dishes he can reach.  He's fascinated by the dishwasher, but only when it's opened.  When we're unloading, he's not interested at all.  Obviously it's the food that is attracting my pup.  I once opened the dishwasher to fill, it was empty, I went to answer the phone and Winston was IN the dishwasher.  Too funny!!

If it were any other breed I'd say, "yep, you probably have a mouse".

However, sometimes Border Collies form strange obsessions. There may or may not be a mouse there - ANYMORE. Personally, I would nip it in the bud before it has a chance to get out of control! ;) I would find her something else to do, and fast - more exercise, more mental work!

    haha how cute!

Thanx Dogslyfe, I was told once that Border Collies can form weird obsessions. I'll see what I can do to get her away from it a bit more :)

My little Misty is in love with our dishwasher, I thought she was the only one, nice to know she has company.

Her love, I'm sure, is from seeing that there's another poodle LIVING IN THE DISHWASHER, and by gosh, she's lovely.  Same thing with the stove.  She's seeing her reflection and is mesmerized, sometimes she even plays with the poodles that live in our appliances.  All this when she has a big brother close at hand.

I must say I too am really glad to know that I'm not the only one with a dog crazy about a dishwasher (or other household appliance at that!).

The dishwasher is a huge hit at my house too. Coincidentally,  Grey, my border collie mix, adores the dishwasher way too much.

Sorry but I have to tell you, anoush, that she is a very cut dog.  We have a 6 month old border collie/australian shepherd mix. We just love her to death. They are so full of energy and you're right they do acquire some strange obsessions and do some strange things.
