Hey everyone. My name is Sheyla, and I just signed up to seek some help. We used to have a Beagle 3 years ago, but our family had some problems and we ended up having to adopt out our beautiful Beagle who is very happy with his new owner to this date. Now my brother has grown and has been pestering my mother that he wanted another dog. So finally, my mother broke down and adopted another Beagle. The dog's name is Harry and he is 1 - 2 years old. We've had him for exactly 1 week, and from day one that he got into the house, he's been peeing all over. He's already branded our sofa 3 times. We tried taking him out first thing in the morning and every 4 hrs or so (there is always somebody at home) and around midnight, but he'll pee in the between times. It's become frustrating now that after walking him, he'll come in and 10 minutes after he'll be peeing on the same spot. We tried buying those puppy pads, it worked, but he doesn't stop peeing elsewhere. The living room smells like urine, I don't even want to leave my room. I was against the adoption of any dog, since I'm rarely home, as I'm a full time college student and I also work full time, I don't have time to train the dog, I have a cat and she takes care of herself pretty much, she is one of those cats that doesn't like too much attention, lol. But my mother likes to spoil my brother since he is the youngest... and now that my brother has lost interest in the dog, he is trying to talk her into returning it. The lady who adopted the dog to them, warned them that the dog was over-hyperactive, but he was stubborn and adopted the dog anyway, I think because Harry reminds us of our older dog. I really wouldn't like to return him, seeing as the lady has over 15 other dogs she is trying to find homes for. I am in desperate need of advice!!! I'm trying to convince my mother into buying a crate, but she doesn't like seeing animals in cages. Dog boot camp is way too expensive for us to afford. I really don't know what else to do, I would like some advice on how my brother should train the dog, he is on vacation from school, so this would be perfect time for him to train Harry. The dog doesn't understand commands like 'NO', he likes to chew on things aswell, and he bites hard, not enough to bleed but enough to bruise. I hope he isn't a lost case, but he is going to bring us to tears. I'll appreaciate any type of help. I know dogs are harder to train out of the puppy stage, when it comes to potty training, but there must be some hope. I also don't know if this might have something to do with it, but there might be a chance that the dog was kept outside, because when we got him, he was infested with fleas and ticks, it took me and my brother nearly 4 hrs to get all those suckers out.
Anyway, any help is appreaciated. Sorry for the long novel, but I think you guys can feel that this is a distress call. Thanks in advanced.
