    Too much puppy play/older dog!

    * I posted this thread in the wrong thread, sorry. So here it is the correct thread*

I have two dogs one is 4 months and one is almost 7. They enjoy playing together, but the pup seems to be getting a bit over the top, it's now to the point where her hair starts to stand up from her neck to the tail. Is this okay? Or a signal that it needs to be broken up??

My older dog "air snapped" for the first time ever at the pup, and the pup seeemed to cool off for a bit, they were actually laying together and licking each other.

Is this still okay or is getting to rough and what are some signals that they need to seperated for a bit.

    Thanks
    Kristie

    Hi Kristie,
I have a 3yr old (Cole) who has cancer a 1 1/2 yr old (Jasper) who is very hyper and a 7 yr old (Cosmo). We then brought a puppy home last night. What you are describing I think is normal. My three dogs always play together and Japser is very hyper and can soemtimes irrate Cosmo. Cosmo will then snap in the air like you describe and I think it is just telling Jasper to chill out for a bit. I think the hair standing up is her getting excited. My three do the same thing. Now there are times when I have to tell the boys to calm down because they get so worked up. As long as your two aren't causing physical damage like bites etc. I think they are fine. The oldest will let the puppy know when to chill out. Hope this helps.
    Have a great day![:)]

I have an almost 2 year old and a 5 month old and they play like that too. Gracie puts the hair on her back up all the way to her tail too.. she ends up with a ridge all the way down her back. I would just watch them and if it looks like there are serious problems, then worry.. but otherwise it seems as if your other dog knows how to tell your pup when enough is enough and that's fine. Your puppy needs to learn it's boundaries and your older dog is teaching.. so let the schooling continue for now and as long as there is no problems, I would say let them be.
