    Spinning obsession?

Hello! My dobe acts very strange when he goes for a poop, he'll spin round and round for up to ten minuites before he'll finally go? I think he's finding the right spot or something or maybe looking around to see who's waching! lol, he's a very strange dog sometimes, right now he's licking the arm of the chair and staring at me. [:-] He has his old chair, which is his and no one elses (prob cause its usually hairy) x x

LOL.  You gotta love them and all their weirdness.  Don't you have some kind of ritual you go through when you poop?  [;)]

My old dog does the same thing, but not for ten minutes- he spins around six or seven times.  Sometimes he doesn't spin but just kind of walks in the squatting position.  When he was younger, after he pooped he would zoom around the yard a few times before coming in.  We always said he was running victory laps...

Not sure how much truth there is to this but someone told me...that the reason dogs will spin around before they lay down is because in the wild they would mush down the grasses in order to make their nest.  It is like a nesting behavior... maybe they do it for the same reason before pooping?

lol yeah! its kinda a mixture of spinning then squatting round and round. If its raining he dont take nearly as long, lmao x x x

I think he jus likes goin round in circles as he used to chase his tail (stump) but realising catching it was not gunna happen he now chases his leg, when he catches it he sorta hops round and round!

I wouldnt change his strange habits for the world..  [:)]

My dog does the same thing. Except he starts off going in a big circle, then smaller and smaller and smaller until hes stand/squatting in one spot spinning then finally does his business. (Think of a spiral)

That's hilarious.  Was he ever housed in a kennel enviroment?  There was a dog at the humane society named Scooby who had been raised in a puppy mill.  He would always spin in circles.  Even if he's not from a puppy mill, if he's spent too much time in a kennel enviroment (not just the vericrate in your living room, like a humane society kennel building), he might just do that out of habit.  It'll usually go away after a while, but it's fairly entertaining and not really a problem, just a quirk.

That just gave me a much-needed laugh :)

Ben does this.  He also starts whining when he needs to poop and the whining gets louder and more insistent as he spins.  Then all of a sudden, he'll stop, squat, and do his thing.  It's pretty funny and nothing to worry about, I think.
