    Growling

I've had my goldren retriever since he has been 10 weeks old. Been around people and he is very social. He loves meeting new people that are always coming to my house. I always let them in, he comes lumbering in expecting everyone to love him. My good friend, "B" he adores and whimpers everytime he comes in the door. However, one day I was on the laptop and I told "B" just to come in when he arrived. Well he came in, Seamus gets up and usually growls with tail wagging and then sees the person and gets playful. Seamus lowered his head and started growling at "B". Circling him and growled a little until I told him to knock it off, then he went to the other room. Anyone have any idea why he did this? Maybe because he came in without me going to the door?

Probably.  A dog has a natural instinct to protect his home from people who walk through the door without knocking or without the person living there letting in the visitor.  I don't let anyone walk into my house without me opening the door.  I have Eevee sit far back while I let them in, and then I release her and she is allowed to greet the visitor.  >^_^<
