    Bubblegum

When I first got Bubblegum a year and a half ago,,,every once in a while when we left and came home she would be so excited she would pee a little bit...except there is no such thing as a little bit when your talking Great Dane!   She only did it a few times so no problem.  BUT I have been unemployed since Nov. and now went back to work, if only part time. When I come home she is so excited after I have been spending the whole day with her until now,,,,and she has pee'd a few times again.   I am having a really hard time getting the yellow out of my white carpet. BUT we decided that we must go back to not paying any attention to her for the first 5 or 10 minutes that we walk in the house to try to stop this. We did this in the past as Nothing In Life is Free training.....and got away from it.    Well, we started doing it again yesterday....its amazing how fast she caught on this time..she must have remembered this from months ago.  Now instead of getting excited and jumping, peeing and doing whatever,,,she just lays on a rug near me and watches,,,,waiting for me to call her to me for a hug.    I was shocked at how good she is accepting it this time.

Yea Athena did that when we first got her.  I would come home from college and she would be all happy to see me and then I would notice the huge puddle under her.  We did the same thing you did just not pay attention to her and it stopped.  Oh and a funny story about it never just being a little bit with a dane.  I went with a friend to one of those things a Petsmart where you watch a video about working there and fill out your application.  Well they had a great dane on there and it peed as much as maybe a chihuahua and i had to start laughing.  I know from my great dane and my mother's that when they go its not going to be just a little bit.

Yeah, my golden goes nuts when I come home from anywhere. No peeing though..just won't stay down. He doesn't jump on visitors, just his family.

I'm sure that someone else knows more about this than I do, but here goes... The only working solution I've heard of for "happy" peeing is that when you get home ignore the dog, or at least don't make a big deal out of it.  Then get them outside ASAP, after they urinate outside, then make the big deal.  This worked for my friends shiloh shepherd.

We had this problem early on with our dog, and this really is the best way to deal with it... we didn't scold her for doing it, because she really couldn't help it. We just got her outside before she could pee inside... calmly, and without saying a word. Then praised her and gave her a cookies when she finished outside. Within a month or so, it had completely stopped.
