• Horny poodle - HELP eli lebowitz Posted : 5/4/2006 5:40:12 PM HI ALL My girlfriend and i have a 5 year old, not neutered, poodle and a 4 year old, spayed, female dog. we also have a cat but he's currently not involved... everyone usually gets along but every now and then the poodle seems to get very horny for a period of days or weeks. he will hump our female dog twenty four hours a day and lick her genital area all the time. she is very patient but it bothers her and us alot. he also gets much more aggressive during these times and has bitten both my girlfriend and my mother, drawing blood but not causing real damage. we are getting desperate. i am nervous about neutering, especially at his age. we really need some good suggestions!! thanks! • sooner Posted : 5/4/2006 5:45:05 PM Why are you nervous about neutering - there's no reason to be, this is not an old dog. Neutering will help, until then I'd keep the dogs seperated during these times. It's not right to put her through this. Edited to add: Darn it-too slow! • grab01 Posted : 5/4/2006 10:13:52 PM Agreed, neuter the boy as soon as possible.  5 is not at all old. With the safer anesthetics these days, and the routine bloodwork done beforehand, a simple procedure like this is nothing to worry about. My 10 year old dog was just last summer sedated for an ear flush and a dental and came through perfectly.   Also, I would put him on a NILIF program, and work on training. • spiritdogs Posted : 5/5/2006 7:21:42 AM I agree.  Have him neutered, then train him.  It sounds like you are a newbie and could really benefit from classes.  Your dog isn't too old to be neutered (or trained).
