    Whining at a specific toy

Newbie on the forum and got a question. My dog plays with toys just fine but she has one toy that we bought her that everytime she tries to plays with it she whines at IT, not us. It's a $1 toy that we just picked up at Target one day, and it's a plastic bone, white with little black paws on it, and it squeaks. This was the first squeak toy she got, for we afeared being driven nuts before. I always thought maybe she thought the toy was in pain because it squeaked, and it made her sad, but what to you guys think? Just curious.

sounds to me like she is just talking to it because it is "special". Mine does that all the time to 2 specific toys (his favorites). We call it singing and talking. At least your dogs toy doesn't quack back - one of Tyler's giant fluffies honks, quacks and squeeks!

I agree. Maddi's favorite toy was a plush red bone and she used to squeak it then carry it around whimpering. I think she's doing it because it's her favorite [:D].

Possibly she just doesn't "get" that she made it squeak, and is trying to get the toy to squeak on its own!

What kind of dog do you have?  I read a story about a terrier that whined at one of its balls. It turned out that it was sad because he couldn't "kill" it.[/blockquote]

A friend gave Scout a peanut butter filled rawhide bone.  We never give him rawhide but I figured since this was a gift I'd let him have it.  He carried it around the house whining and trying to hide it. He tried to hide it under his bed, but that wasn't good enough. Then he tried to hide it in a bag, but that also was not good enough.  Then he starts digging in the closet and shoes are flying everywhere, but that also was not good enough....

He probably just thinks its extra special!

My dog likes to whine at his squeaky toys as well. I'm thinking it probably has something to do with the sound the toy makes sounding similar to when he whines himself.

Several reasons for this type of whining actually.
    Here's one...
Have any of you ever heard a rabbit when its injured?
Any prey/game animal really? squeeks, shrill shreeks, squiels ect.
    It's awfull!

Hof, that's funny you say that when my son was younger he used to landscape in the summer and one day one of the guys saw a baby rabbit, in the tall grass and was able to pick it up, wanted to take it out of harms way, my said it was the most horrifying sound  he's ever heard, I'm glad I've never heard it. But that is their only defense, so I guess it's got to be a good one.
