Clicker training is always fun and mentally stimulating for dogs.  "101 things to do with a box" is a favorite of many people. My dogs pretty much go nuts when I get a clicker and a box out. lol    

If he eats dry kibble, you could hide his meals around the house and have him use his nose.  Of course Puzzle might want to help. :)   Hide a dog toy and have him find it.  Find it is a favorite game around here.

I have a few puzzle toys for the dogs.  Basically different shaped objects that have hidden compartments that hold a treat.

One of my favorites is just to take any sort of box, bucket or container, and several tennis balls.   Toss in the air -- and 'reward'' for bringing them to you and putting them in the container.  

Or vary that theme and instead of picking it up -- if you are into "shaping" -- then have Barley "herd" with his nose.  Herding games can really help smoothe out a dog who is part herder.  It took me years to learn with my sheltie/corgi cross - but once he got ME educated on how much he **NEEDED** stuff to herd, life became much easier. LOL

We do clicker train and a bit of free shaping, but not much since we got puzzle. I will have a go at free shaping with a box, and see what he does.

We will try hiding treats around the house as kibble is not appealing enough to him. Puzzle would be shut in her cage as he can get grumpy over food. Barley says no to any toys.
