Normal puppy behavior or a problem?

Normal puppy behavior or a problem?

Sometimes when I am walking to 16 week old Sadie, she will suddenly lunge at me or her leash. She will bite and snarl a little. Sometimes it seems to come out of nowhere, sometimes a noise or something will set her off. #1 Is this normal puppy behavior that just needs correcting? #2 How do I correct it? My instinct has been to grab her and stop her from getting a hold of me, but I don't know if this makes it worse. She doesn't show aggression in ANY other way whatsoever. She doesn't guard food, I can take stuff out of her mouth, I can touch her on her paws, ears etc. etc and have no problems at all. Please give your insight.

Normal puppy behavior. When she does it stop everything you're doing, stand still and totally ignore her until she stops. Then when she does stop praise and move forward again.

Easier said than done. lol. I have a feeling I'm going to lose some clothing and some skin. I tried today with some treats now that she knows down and sit. It sort of helped, but she was jumping on me for the treats!

Just be persistent! She is still a pup with a puppy brain :)

I feel like I need to wear one of those suits that the police wear while training dogs. ;)

If you can figure out what it is, I'd just try to distract her from it. If you can get her to do something else, just do that. Normal puppy behavior though. I used to have a dog who grabbed the leash and went nuts big time. I didn't solve it, I just got a chain leash. Not really a solution, but it's what I did.

She's jumping and biting at me too though. I have learned that a sprinkler will set her off. It's hard to do nothing when she's biting me.

My girl was a young adult when I adopted her, but was completely unsocialized, so still had a lot of puppy jumping and mouthing behaviors.  A high-pitched "ouch!" seemed to be most effective in getting her to stop nipping, and a request for an incompatible behavior (like "sit";) helped the most with the jumping.  Have fun with your new pup!

She's learned a few commands, sit down and stay. When this leash thing happens though, it's like the devil has taken over! As far as socialization, she's meeting lots of people and dogs, but I have yet to find a local puppy class. Petco doesn't seem to be hosting any at this time.

Did you try checking for training places on the APDT website?
