    Embarrassing Question

Hi, I posted this question on the Introduction forum. I hope it's OK to put it under more then one Forum? All thought I do have a question that i hope someone here can answer. It's a bit embarrassing though. But our female Chihuahua Chelsey is humping Willow?? OMG that was embarrassing to say lol! Is this normal??? I fuss at Chelsey every time I see her doing this. Willow just kind of sits there and doesn't know what to do :( . I have been reading a bit and have not come across that issue. Any advice???

Mounting behavior is not uncommon in dogs and there are different reasons for it and often mounting behavior has nothing to do with sexual activity.  I wouldn't fuss at Chelsey when she does it.  Just call her away from Willow or ignore it.  When Willow feels more comfortable in your home she may start moving away when Chelsey does this or she may allow it or she may start snapping or otherwise put a stop to it if it bothers her.  What we find embarassing is just dogs acting naturally so don't make a big deal over it and it won't become a big deal.  You might feel better after reading this article.

    Nodding in agreement with Jackie.

Often tho, the mods do frown on more than one thread on the same topic.

She didn't start a different thread in the intro area.  She just asked the same question in her own intro thread which I don't think is a big deal to the mods but I could be wrong.

Hi Jackie, Thank you for the link to the article. I just finished reading it. I realized as I was reading the article that I am the one who is freaking out lol. So no more fussing at Chelsey. I'm sure your right about Willow putting her in her place if it's bothering her. I just have to remember...breathe and relax :-). QUOTE from Article "Make humping no fun and not a big deal. This really means we need to control our own behavior and not react when we see our dog humping. Don’t accidentally reinforce the behavior by freaking out."

OK I don't want to make the mods mad at me. So I will try and be careful from now on as to where I post something. Thank you Glenda :-).

Hi Donna, my Willy is neuterd and humps -- the front of my female who is spayed!  Tasha has NO idea what he is doing, she doesn't like it, and since his face is close, she snaps at him.  Silly goof, he's been doing this almost 2 YEARS!  Less and less and maybe one day, my otherwise fast learner will figure out she does NOT like it!

My newbie, Riley,is spayed and humps -- my black cats!  They are not amused either. Geesh!

If anyone even attempts humping Toots, its Game Over. At first she does an about face and air snaps. If the humper doesn't listen they get a loud growl followed by another air snap. Its never went any further. In time if Willow doesn't like it she'll let them know. Big Smile

    P.S. Willow is a doll.

Lol I could just see Tootsie doing air snaps! I think with Willow being so young she's not sure what to do :-). I'm the one that it drives bonkers! I am trying very hard to ignore Chelsey when she does that to Willow. But it's like she's doing it all the time. I told hubby last night that I just wish Willow would just give her a good bark to let Chelsey know she's tired of it lol. But your right-I'm sure Willow will get a belly full of it. I just hope it's soon :-). Thank you for the sweet comment on Willow. Tootsie is precious! A good friend of ours has a Corgi & she is the most lovable fur baby

my apologies.  I didn't read your intro post so didn't realize this issue was raised in addition to other stuff you might have said.  Typically the problem arises if someone starts a number of different threads that are all but identical.  This often happens because they have what they consider a major issue going on and are impatient for help, or don't realize that their post will actually be seen and responded to in just ONE spot.  Many forums aren't as active as this one is.
