Well, without checking out the link, there are two thoughts that come to mind.
Owners often look like their pets.
Owners are attracted to dogs that are like themselves.
I have joked that I, like my dog, am half Siberian Husky. I prefer the cold. I was working a new school several years ago. It was on the side of a hill. It was January, 16 F, with a 20 mph north wind. My project manager asked me how I can stand it.
I told her, "I'm part Siberian Husky. When it gets colder, I just bark louder."
How about a dog and an owner with glow-in-the-dark eyes and thick hair (fur)?
Yes, his head is about as big as mine. He is 26 inches to the shoulder, 36 inches long, not including tail. My wife, who is 5' 5.5" tall, Shadow can put his paws on her shoulder. But he only weighs 65 lbs. But he did knock her down, once, in his happiness to see her. Since then, we have trained "off" to avoid that.
