Peeing in her crate

    Peeing in her crate

I need help please. Sissy is peeing in her crate. I’m sure it’s behavioral and not medical. She has never done it during the day and she didn’t do it while we were gone for a week and the dog sitter was staying there.

She did it a few nights a couple of weeks ago, then nothing while we were gone, then last night, on our second night back, she did it again. There is no warning – it’s pee, then bark and whine. Sometimes it is the middle of the night, sometimes toward the morning, last night was an hour after going to bed. She has unlimited access to outside from the time we get home from work to the time we go to bed. It’s difficult to cut off her access to water because of the other dogs, but that may be my next step. However, like I said, I’m sure this is a behavioral issue that may or may not be helped by limiting water. When it happens I get her out, put her outside, clean, and put her back in the clean crate. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do about this?

Background: Sissy is a ~2 year old pit bull, she was my dad's and I got her when he died. I've had her for over a year. This is the first time we've had any problem at all.

I don't have any suggestions other than I would take her in for a urine culture to rule out any sort of UTI issue.   Why are you so certain it's not medical?

The reason I don't think it is medical is that she is in there for about 6 hours a day and she has never done it during the day. Also, she didn't do it during the night for the 5 nights we were gone, and the dog sitter had her on the exact same schedule that we do. I haven't noticed any other signs of a UTI, but I can always get that checked.

Could be spay incontinence, if she's spayed.  That can be pretty random.  I had a dog who started out every now and then peeing on her dog bed and she didn't do it daily or on any sort of regular basis.  If it's behavioral, I haven't a clue why.  Hopefully someone else will have some thoughts on that part of it.

I would definitely get her checked.

My girls have to potty more when I'm home vs when someone else is home with them.
