    Aggression after a new pup?

    Hi all,

I will try to keep this short, but I will appreciate any help you can give!  We have an intact whippet bitch who had lived and played with 2 other dogs happily for the past few months (a kees (neutered) and a rescue sheepdog/lab/poodle (spayed girl)) until recently.  During her 2nd heat, we bought a male whippet puppy that she pretty much adopted as her own- very protective, interested in him, etc.  Anyway, at this time she started with somewhat random attacks on the rescue girl dog, and they keep escalating even though she has been out of her heat for a few days.   So.. we are wondering.. is this something that is going to pass or what can we do to get these attacks to stop?  Right now I am pretty quick to stop her attacks, put her in her crate, and keep her there for a bit.  When she comes out she is pretty wary of the rescue girl- herds her and keeps an eye on her, until boom!  Random attack again!
so, anything to help would be much appreciated! thanks

My girls only fight when they are in season or preggers...it tends to even out outside of those times. I would probably keep them separated and really wait her out....let the heat dissipate and allow the puppy to interact with the other dogs when the Whippet is not present. You don't want her isolating the puppy because she thinks it's "hers" or whathaveyou.

I think for now separation would be wise.....and try slow reintroduction after she's been out of season for a few weeks.

Whats the general order as far as status in your home?

We think the kees male is the benevolent ruler of the house, with the whippet 2nd and the rescue girl 3rd.   He doesnt correct the others, but then nobody bothers him either. She used to correct the rescue girl within reason, and the puppy as well, but lately it has been over the top in terms of the correction.  thanks for the response.... we are patient and are willing to do what it takes, but we arent sure the best course of action!
