    Neighbors 3 Lab S.O.B.'s & I Need help!!!

Our neighbor has 3 male Labs (Black, Chocolate, Yellow) that are VERY aggressive. One has come after me and our old Springer that we lost in November. Their 2 former Yellow Labs did attack our late Springer twice when he was under 18 months old and left him HATING ALL DOGS for the rest of his life ( and cost me $400 in vet emerg. bills too). New young'n Springer is with us and I will not allow this again. Since the neighbor isn't going to change his ways, or dogs either, I'm now looking for a great working Ultrasonic Blaster to train these terrors with. It will be better than having to use my billy club on them if they come into our yard after our dog or us again. New fence going up this spring but they sound awful when barking and vicious & that is scaring our new little boy (12 months old).  He runs for the house even when we are in the middle of our 3/4 acre back yard.

Any that you all have had work???

    Thanks for the help.

I feel the pain but wish I had an answer.  It seems like the police or sheriff could have helped with the first dog episode.  Maybe now there could be some kind of intervention/warning by police.

I hope some veterans here can help.

I've never heard of an "Ultrasonic Blaster" to keep aggressive dogs away, but why not contact Animal Control or the police department's non-emergency line and file a complaint?

The only problem with the ultronic device is it will be "correcting" your dog at the same time.  Other than that, I think it's a pretty good idea.  Is pepper spray legal where you live?  We used to keep some in the vehicle when I was a kid to stop aggressive dogs from coming after us when we were delivering the mail.  If pepper spray is illegal, maybe aa spritz bottle with some water and vinegar in it would work.  I'd definitely be calling the authorities if they come after you on the road, tho.

Try Spray Shield.  It sprays about ten feet and hisses.  Harmless to the dogs, just an unpleasant citronella spray that they don't like the smell (or startle effect) of.

I solved my neighborhood dog problem by calling animal control, AND the police, every single time I saw the dogs out of their yard. They were taken so many times they were not given back. Safe, and very effective.

Why are you putting up with this?  The lab owner is responsible for what his dogs do-legally, financially.  Contact law enforcement , police, sheriff, animal control. File a report, with pictures if possible, so the authorities are aware of your problem.  Document the trespassing and attacks.

Let the neighbor know that you will expect him to pay for any damages, and that police will be involved if you are attacked again.  You have shown much more restraint than I would,  At the least, I would have had the neighbor in small claims court for the attack on my dog.

I would not try to club a dog in attack mode with a short stick.  You have a chance of being really close to a hurt dog, which could be the same as being close to a really mad dog.  The spray mentioned earlier, a paintball gun, I've even seen a .22 used with birdshot at a distance to keep dogs away.  I don't like to hurt a dog, but I will not let my self or my dog be hurt by someone elses dog.

If his dogs are attacking you, they are dangerous dogs.  In Minnesota, that means the owner is required to have insurance, keep the dogs under control with a leash or in an approved enclosure at all times, or he will lose the dogs.

Paintball marker crossed my mind, too.  A little hard to use it when you're walking, but out in the yard it would quite handy.  Check your local laws first, tho.  Some aread are getting real funny about paintball markers- you may be charged with discharging a gun too close to a house, road or property line.

It's always good to make a police report and contact animal control even about the past attacks.  Otherwise, if you do spray the dog with pepper spray, shoot a paintball or any other defense that could potentially harm the attacking dog, you're on record about having reported the dogs and you're less likely to be on the wrong end of the law.  I'd report the dogs any time you see them loose. I would also canvas the neighborhood for others who have had problems with these dogs and ask if they will report the dogs and owner.  The more pressue the police and animal control feel the more likely they will take action.  Good luck.

Just make sure you aim carefully, so you don't miss the owner and accidentally hit one of the dogs.
