Twister says he'll fight anyone who calls him a bitch or tries to hump him. Wink

    atta boy Twister!

since there's only been 4 dogs I can think of (two pups) that tried to hump B I'm guessing he doesn't smell like a girl - except after a bath Wink

For a couple of months after he got neutered, Erik was a hump magnet. Every male dog he encountered wanted a go! It did fade after a while, but I remember thinking it bizarre because it was just after he got desexed that it started. He was a humping maniac before he got neutered. His hormones seemed a little out of control. I wonder if that had anything to do with his attractiveness to other dogs afterwards?

Erik is a displacement humper. He humps sometimes when he is socially conflicted. Like if I go outside and he wants to come with me but he knows I'm just feeding the hare and will be back in soon. Of if he's excited about a social situation but can't decide what to do.

Kivi completely ignores him whenever he humps him. Kivi ignores any dog that humps him. He is a very placid and social dog. I have always figured he doesn't mind because he doesn't mind about anything, really.

I once had this explanation at an Ian Dunbar Seminar.

I was always a bit confused about the function of face humping with my old lab Cadbury. He seemed to have a very simple test, if i face hump you and you let me then you should do pretty much what i want. If i face hump you and you throw me off, then i need to do pretty much what you want. It seemed to work, and he was capable of operating in very large social circles. Where it didn't work was with handlers that had shut their dogs down with masssive corrections. Many seemed to not handle my dog's approach and got pretty upset. Funny social set up these humans. Smile

There are some neutered males who seem to have a *hump me* tag on their forehead when they go out in public. I know a couple of dogs who seem to be targets for humping, and other dogs almost compulsively try to hump that dog, but not another dog in the vicinity, whether it's personality, communication signals, or scent, I have no clue, but I know a little JRT in particular who seems to bring on this sort of *attention*.

We went to an indoor dog park last year and there was a female there that Jack would NOT stop trying to hump.  I was becoming rather irritated with him.  The dog's owner (who was also a staff member at the facility), however, just laughed it off and said that her dog was a constant target for humpers.....

That's interesting. I would have questioned whether the female might have had vaginitis or a recent (or ongoing) UTI. It can sometimes throw dogs off and confuse the sexual-communication signals a bit when it's a male/female interaction. Or, it could just be that the dog just had one of those targets on her forehead! The joys of the unknown!

    Abbie is this way

Tootsie, is very much like Abbie when it comes to humping. Big mistake for the humpee.

It's been my experience that herding dogs, as a rule, are less tolerant of being humped than most dogs.  I think it's a combination of their natural reactivity and a hard-wired sense of having to be able to move quickly with livestock.  They also don't seem to want their view blocked.
