NILIF

• NILIF Sue and Buddy Posted : 3/2/2007 8:28:29 PM So, I have been told by my obedience instructor that after what she has seen from Buddy that he needs a rank reduction program.  We have been communicating through email since class about this.  I asked her if she was speaking of NILIF and let her know that I do some of those things with Buddy, like sit before going out.  She told me that there was more to NILIF than that, which I understand.  She never did tell me if she is going to suggest NILIF.    I have been looking online for info about NILIF to refresh my knowledge of it.  Is there an official site for NILIF? But one thing I sure learned about the method, and what I think makes it or breaks it - reward the overall state of the dog (by food, place on a couch), etc. - not the act of sitting down. If you ask your dog to sit down before you open a door, and your dog does it while hardly holding himself back, with stiff legs, all ready to shoot through it - *that* doesn't get rewarded. Just wait for your dog to actually calm down...
