Training treat suggestions

My Keen box has a recipe on the side of it, and THK has recipes on their youtube and site, too. You could make some treats with that as the base.

We use Cheerios for standard treats for all but Baji (who knows she doesn't have to settle for something that boring). Kibble coated with some grated cheese is another good one if they won't work for kibble alone. In a baggie coat a cup of kibble with 2 T of water and 2 T of grated cheese. Shake & smoosh. Nuke to melt/attach cheese. Roll in your hands to break it back up to single pieces. We also use Natural Balance food roll and turkey hot dogs although it's not often I have to go beyond cheerios and coated kibble.

I use the Charlee Bear treats for Max.  I like them because he loves them, they're small enough to put a handful in a pocket, they only have 3 calories and they don't start to smell *funny* if I forget to take them out of my pocket.

Thanks everyone!  I have some great ideas now :)

I use Cheerios, the breakfast cereal.

The reason why is they are small, quick to eat, and move along or repeat the training again. Later on a simple pass of your hand past the nose, the dog thinks " hmm- must have already eaten one..." type thing..

All these are great suggestions, but if your dog's stomach is very sensitive you might just want to ask a vet what they recommend.

My dog has a sensitive tummy as well, and the dog biscuits she eats are far too large for training. I've discovered she really likes her dry kibble and will work for it. It's small, and I can just give her less at her next meal.In fact, at her puppy class several years ago that was the treat we brought with us, So, yeah. If she likes her dog food go ahead and use it, Test it out at home before class though.

    Good luck with training!

Most of our class dogs, even the sensitive ones, do great with Yummy Chummies (made in USA from wild salmon) or Dr. Becker's Bites (grain free organic beef & bison liver).

Just wanted to suggest, if you end up using her regular food, or something she finds a little bit boring, there are ways to alter the value of it to make her think it's something more interesting. Oftentimes, if I pretend to eat something myself, the dog is more willing to work for it than if I just gave it from out of my pocket. Perhaps you could mix something higher value with something lower value, and let them hang out in the bag together so the low value stuff picks up some flavor off the higher value stuff.
