    Training treat suggestions

I need training treat suggestions!  Echo's tummy did not deal well with cheese pieces last night at class.  Her tummy also does not like chicken cooked and cut up.  It is also crumbly.

Bil-jac treats give her the runs also.

I don't know if she would do ok with kibbles as treats?  Or what about those charlie bears?

Me too.  They never fail. Yes

When Tootsie was in obedience, the trainer preferred us to have treats that didn't crunch.

Dehydrated meats? There are many brands out there that make one ingredient dried treats such as beef liver, salmon, etc. I use Benny's Bullies beef liver all the time with Penny.

That's tough! If she's going to be that sensitive, I'd probably try kibble. I do use kibble for my food whores, but it's not high value, even though they love food.

I do Weight Watcher's string cheese. It's low sodium and low fat (only 50 calories per stick, and that's at LEAST two training sessions). Boneless, skinless chicken breast, baked and chopped up, and dried a bit in the oven. I do watch the fat content, carefully, because Jewel has a touchy tummy. Sounds like Echo's is worse, though:(

Have you tried natural balance food roll. There is a lamb version. That goes over really big here.

I've also used liverwaurst, baby food: sweet potatoes, turkey and rice.

Freeze dried liver? Bailey loooves freeze dried liver. It comes in big quarter sized chunks, but I chop it up into little pea sized pieces and they work great for training treats.

Do you have a dehydrator? You could try making your own treats.

Pure Bites makes plain, dehydrated meat CAT TREATS. They are tiny, and fabulous.

Also, Amanda, Bean's hero, suggested plain yogurt, in one of those travel shampoo containers. You squeeze a little, and let them lick it off.

I make my own liver treats w/o a dehydrator.

Just lightly fry liver in Olive Oil til it "sets".  Set aside until COMPLETELY cool.

Mince into itty bitty pieces.  Again spray a cookie sheet with Olive Oil Pam jand spread the little pieces out as far as you can.

175 - 200 degree oven for 2-3 hours.  A couple of times you may want to sort os 'turn' it to expose it evenly -- store in an airtight container in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

    Irresistible and good for them.

Now mine like all kinds of stuff -- I use the little Gerber dried apple bits as training treats (yes, I do too! LOL)

     I've used...

    • Zuke's mini's (and I still cut them in half)
    • Cooked chicken breast
    • Cooked venison stew meat (I have an infinite supply of free venison)
    • Hot dog
    • Natural Balance food roll
    • Goldfish crackers
    • Dry cereal (human)

If Echo has a sensitive stomach, I'd make my own treats out of the canned versionof her food mixed with some oatmeal.  Spread it thin on a cookie sheet and bake.  I've also done the same thing with canned pumpkin and, recently, a mashed up banana.  When it's done baking, cool, then cut into maybe thirds or quaters (to fit into quart sized freezer bag).  Put a piece of parchment paper between the layers and freeze.  You can pull a little out as you need it and break into bite sized pieces.  I've takens some out of the freezer as I was heading out to train- it thaws quickly.  Store whatever you don't use in the firdge.

I've also used the NB food rolls, cut into tiny pieces.  Again, I make use of the freezer- I slice the roll and freeze them, pulling a couple out at a time and cutting them into tiny pieces as needed (how many slices depends on what sized roll).

I have been buying "Yogurt treats" from the Pet supply store in our local town.  The treats are about the size and consistancy of a hershey's kiss.  They suggest they are good training treats but I give them to the boys as a special before bed snack.   I give them 3 pieces each and let me tell you they love them.   They know by the routine about what time we go get "Yogertz" lol.   I just say "Are you ready for Yogertz?" and they run to the kitchen!  LOL!  They come in a clear container and they are a bit pricey but it takes awhile before they get thru a jar of them.  It has been a good way to get yogurt in them.  :)

Thanks guys! Lots of things to try for her.   I was hoping I'd get a dog who wasn't so sensitive but her tummy is very touchy.

She does great on raw/THK but add anything funny in there and... ew.

Going to try the hot dogs first I think!

Surprise What a great idea. I might just have to try that...
