Bark Off?

    Bark Off?

I saw this infomercial on TV today for this product called the Bark Off. It's this rectangular shape electronic device that's supposed to emit a high pitch noise that interrupts your dog barking and people arent supposed to hear it. It's only $10 but I'm a little wary of long term effects of using it. The only reason I'm interested in it is to put it in my car when I take Tyson with me to places. He gets whiny and barky in the car because he's so excited to go somewhere (he's perfectly quiet on the way home from places). I'm a little worried its a scam as well. Has anyone tried it or heard of it before?

I've got a  PetSafe "bark box" that we got when we lived in the campground.  It works very well once you teach them what it's for.  Will have to put new batteries in mine soon, HOPEFULLY, since it is possible we'll be in a campground again until we can find housing......

You have perfect timing - I commented on the test of a Bark Off for a local news program (just ignore the reporter's improper use of the phrase "negative reinforcement" lol).

May work for some dogs. We had one before, not this exact one though. It looked like the one dog barked for a bit, stopped, then started barking again. My dog did this too. She barked a bit, stopped, then started whining incessantly, maybe this pitch didn't set it off. The other piece I would worry about in a multi dog household, if one dog barks, all the dogs are going to hear the tone. Unless they always all bark together, other dogs in the house might be punished for all sorts of things. If I were going to use something, I would probably chose to use something on the individual dog or dogs.

Thanks for the replies. Tyson is our only dog so I'm not worried about other dogs hearing but thats a good point I didnt think of. I wonder if it only emits the high pitch noise when the dog barks even or if its a constant noise when its turned on.

It is supposed to only go off when the dog barks, but who really knows since we can't hear it lol.

That was the shortest explanation of clicker training I ever saw, but still good! Big Smile  Nice camera presence - you should be on Nat Geo lol.

Yea apparently I'm a natural at sound bites lol.  I spent a total of an hour on location to get my 15 seconds. Stick out tongue  At least they were a decent 15 seconds and I was thrilled that they showed some clicking on camera.

I've tried several ultra-sonic anti-bark devices and IME they don't work very well. At least not with my dogs or dogs I know.
