Are some dogs just rather sensitive?

I know I'm full of questions right now. :P But I'm curious can some dogs be more sensitive than others. Not exactly emotionally but physically. Simba isn't a huge cuddler and can only handle it for so long before he's had enough and has to move away. Is this a puppy thing or just a Simba thing that I'll have to get used to?

Ha ha, just like with the bed thing, Gizmo is the same.  She can only handel so much cuddle and then needs to break loose.  She is overly dramatic though, when it comes to things she doesn't want.  Like clipping her nails, she'll start whinning and crying befor I ever touch her with the clippers, just the sight of them makes her try to run and hide, it takes two people to get the job done.  When I take her to the vet I tell them to take her to the back out of my sight because if I'm around she will act up and gives me a "save me Mommy" face doing all she can to get out of it.  As soon as she can't see me she calms down and I'm told she's easier to work with.

Yep, some dogs just aren't all that touchy feely. Dakota could only handle so much. Lily likes to lay on me, but if I try to hug her, forget it. She squirms until she gets away. Abbie and Neiko otoh would crawl under my skin if they could. They love hugs and snuggles

Bleck, I suppose I'll get used to it. :-/ I just miss snuggles with Toby a lot. Simba likes to lean so I guess that's his way of showing affection but try to hug him and he's like -backs away-.

of course. Just like people. In fact some BREEDS are extremly touchy and others are love you from a distance types. My old Breed Akitas for ex could really care less about snuggling and god help any dog that tried to sleep near them LOL!

Whelping is another time it shows...my hounds are so stoic when whelping that when they scream yu KNOW something is up...but I hear the sighthounds scream THE WHOLE TIME because they just feel pain more than another breed might.

Tootsie loves to be cuddled at all time, but a friend that also has a corgi is the exact opposite, he will tolerate cuddling for about 30 seconds then hes done.

I agree with Tiffy, it depends on the dog. My old girl Babe, a shepherd, could snuggle all day long. I am lucky if I can get a 10 min snuggle with Kord.

Willow tolerates cuddling, hugging, etc. from me but doesn't enjoy it like some dogs.  And, she wont' have it from anyone else at all.

Ahhh, yes, snuggling.  Max will only cuddle for a short time and then he's gone.  Benny doesn't like it at all unless he is ON you.  He likes to lay across our chests, which doesn't last long cause then you can't breathe.  Finn is my cuddle buddy and I'm so glad he is because Buster was always my cuddler.  He and I could cuddle for days and days...I so miss him!

Bugsy didn't even like to be pet as a pup Sad so it is a huge improvement that he is OK with petting at times  - a hug well I can give him a quick one, he will allow kids to hug but will squirm away from an adult that tries.

He has come to enjoy belly rubs in the morning and tolerates a little head massage here and there.  He allows me to work on his surgical leg and give him massages but you would never mistake him for a snuggle buddy Sad

I look at it like this.. some people are cuddlers and snugglers, some people can do it only for so long before they need to stretch out on their own. My dogs are like that too!

Jackson flops down anywhere to go to sleep, so he'll flop on you too and be just fine. Kali and Astra both need to be up against either me or DH. Brianna likes snuggling on you and goes off to sleep like that. Tina does limited snuggling before she has to move and stretch out on her own.
