The Saratoga Horseworks K9 Cooling Coat as pictured here on my dog Luke
I followed the guidelines on the website for sizing my dog, and ordered accordingly. Note here that the length of the coat is too long, and extends past the base of his tail. The velcro strap in this image is pulled up so that it is tight to his body. This picture shows the velcro attached to where the other side of the velcro is attached.
This coat is entirely too large ordered based on the sizing info on the website, as you can see from the pictures. Luke was, last he was weighed 13.5lbs. When putting this coat onto a 35lb dog, the belly strap fit perfectly on this dog, but obviously the length was way off, and was 6 inches too short in length.
I removed the belly strap and tried having him wear it that way, we couldn't walk very far before it started sliding all over.
The front is closed with a plastic snap, the same type like on a collar. This doesn't him tightly enough either, and once he got walking, one of his legs went right through it.
If this coat had fit well, I really do think it would serve it's purpose. I wet the coat, which made him slightly damp, but did not soak him. A wider chested heavier dog who is a bit longer might fit nicely in this coat. When I just tested it on him in the house, and did not try to let him run around in it or really move, I had no idea that it would not work, and thought I could fix this with a little more velcro on the back. That clearly will not work.
