    Cinch It Collars

First, I understand that ecollars are not everyone's cup of tea.  I am not looking for a debate, nor will I participate in one in this thread.  This is the product review thread, & I am reviewing a product, that I have personally found helpful, for others who may use ecollars.

For the past two weeks, we have been using a Cinch It collar as an upgrade for Cher's ecollar.  The collar that came with her ecollar was difficult to size, & she always seemed to be in between the proper size.  The Cinch It will fit in both Dogtra & TriTronics units.  It is a bit of work to make get it pulled through, but with a little petroleum jelly, it is doable.  The Cinch It works on the same principle as zip ties do, so it is very easy to get a proper fit.  Instead of having the unit slipping & sliding around the neck because the collar is too loose, or worrying that you are putting too much pressure on the throat because of the collar being too tight, you have a collar that will keep your ecollar unit in perfect position.  They are relatively inexpensive, which is always nice.  I paid $12 for mine.  It is a rubber collar, so it's easy to clean.  Cher has worn it daily for the past two weeks, & the collar still looks brand new.

Here is Cher, wearing hers earlier today.

She looks a little goofy in this pic.  The helper had just walked past swinging the sleeve, & her mind wasn't on me or the camera at that moment.

what kind of material is it made out of? can you buy them thicker widths? Cher looks great by the way

    Thanks!

It's made out of rubber or some type of synthetic rubber.  The one I have is about an inch wide, & I haven't seen them in any other sizes.

Nice, I was hoping rubber because I could use a bright orange or even that green collar for hunting because my hunter orange collar slip is gettin kinda worn. Id like a inch and half collar but inch would probably do fine. :)

Cher looks fabulous. Wow, the coat!

I use the cinch it collar with my bird girls' Dogtra ecollars.  They are great.  the original collars that came with the Dogra were wide, uncomfortable and difficult to size.  These are comfortable, durable and easy to put on.  The material is rounded and relatively pliable so it's good with long haired dogs, too.  I'm thinking of buying these collars for a good general waterproof choice for hiking outdoors without the e-collar receiver attached.

The only thing that I would recommend is, don't forget to lock that closure button when you put the collar on.  Trudy, my setter, lost hers after rolling around in some sea weed on the beach.  Luckily, I found it.

I don't think that they are an inch.  I think they are about 3/4 inch wide.  I have an English Setter and an English Pointer and I prefer the 3/4 inch.  If you have a really large dog, this might feel too narrow for you.

    Kind of off topic....

Cher looks great in those pics! I like that harness too, it looks good on her.

Thanks for adding to this, Diane.  I need to get a new collar strap for G - we had some custom ones made, but the holes are getting old.

Does it have to up so high?

    • Gold Top Dog

It has to be snug. You wouldn't want it snug on their trachea, right?

Amanda, do you do schutzhund training with Cher? Just thought with, "The helper had just walked past swinging the sleeve" and her wearing an agitation harness you might be.

Kimberly, it doesn't have to sit that high if you don't have an ecollar on it.  If you're just using it as a normal collar, you can loosen it up so that it sits farther down on the neck.

We are toying with schutzhund.  She loves training, but realistically, she will probably end up washing out.  Her obedience & tracking are excellent.  Her protection needs more work, but it is difficult to work a dog, successfully, that is not bred specifically for work.  She has tons of defense drive, but she's seriously lacking in prey drive.  I am realistic with my expectations, & I am viewing the work that we are doing now, as training for me for the future.  I love the sport, & eventually, I will have a dobe who was bred with working in mind.  Until then, my "throwaway dog" and I will have a good time training together.

Looks great!  I'll get one if I ever get around to getting a decent e-collar.

Cher sounds like Nikon.  He has lots of prey drive, but not in the protection phase, that is just a totally different state of mind and prey drive for balls and squirrels does not carry over to a 300lb man harassing and physically threatening with a stick, lol.  He basically washed out of protection until he was mature enough to start work in defense and he has made slow and steady but marked progress since then.  The last few training sessions he's been doing a full SchH1 routine and then for his second round we work specifically on areas that could be improved.  Nikon has absolutely not object oriented. I have this photo where I sent him running the blinds and the helper pulled on a bitesuit instead and in the photo Nikon is trampling over the sleeve, launching at the suit.  I used to have a sleeve at home when Phil was working on presentation and Nikon couldn't have cared less about it, while the object/prey oriented dogs just want to tear it to shreds.  At first I was worried Nikon was never going to have enough balance but now I've come to prefer a more "real" dog.  He is very focused in the protection phase and has excellent secondary obedience.  His last protection session he was doing call-outs and back transports without ever really training or learning these before.  He's never going to be twirled around on a long bite but he has a more thorough "awareness" of the environment that I like, not tunnel vision for a sleeve.  Luckily he's not overly suspicious so even with a lot of defense he's not super reactive, very sound and safe with people outside of protection work.  Sorry that was way off topic... Hey you could always to the OB and TR titles with Cher!
