3 months in, so far so good

So, Helo has been with me for almost 2 months now, and he's reached 12 pounds. He's a labrador/cocker spaniel mix. There are no feeding issues, and he's housebroken where he goes only on the pads.

I have the okay to take him outside, so I've been taking him to the local dog park. He does really well with other dogs. He sniffs and is curious, but mostly keeps to himself. He's not overly hyper, and doesn't bark or growl. Walking has gotten better over the last few days. I walk and he walks with me, with my having to occasionally give the lease a slight tug, but we keep moving.

I've also taught him to sit and also to give me his paw.

Teething and soft biting are still issues, but I just keep shoving toys in his mouth. He's a little over 3 months at this point, so he's teething like crazy.

I'm also trying to stop him from jumping up on me all the time when he's excited or knows I have treats. I'm assuming most of this is normal puppy behavior?

I don't post often, but have enjoyed reading through the various posts here.

Helo is absolutely adorable! Can't think of a better mix. Sounds like you are doing great.

    Similar to the other thread:

When my dog was doing this i bought 2 garden gloves and let my dog to bite away. My hands are protected, we bond while we play and he develops bite inhibition. Once the gloves come off he knows game is over, everybody wins. You might think that would promote the biting and at some point does but once again, the dog knows that the game is played only when i use the gloves

When my dog wanted to jump and get me i was bending down 45 degrees and open both my arms at around 30 inches from each side of his face (like if i'm going to hug him). The dog gets confused as he does not know which hand to go for and he does not jump since the hands are now at his level. The act of bending down also works a little bit as suppressing the excitement. The dog stops jumping, stops biting and at one point he just sits down. He waits for me to "choose which hand i will give him", of course i dont offer any hand and because he is not excited anymore he just does not try again when i walk away
