    Interesting Pit Bull Trainer

Here's a guy who went to San Francisco SPCA Dog Training Academy and works with Pitties in the NJ area.  Just wondering whether you guys also know people who are positive but are working with some of the "bite list breeds" - I think it would be awesome to have a list to refer to for those people who have dogs that require some training and behavior modification but don't want to go the punishment route.

The trainers I've worked with do not discriminate against breeds.  If the dog bites at the training club, they will be excused in order to not upset other clients, but the trainers will always be available for private training.  My favorite trainer specializes more in dogs with fear/anxiety issues but we all know this causes bites just as much if not more than raw aggression.  I would have no hesitation referring anyone to her regardless of breed.  I think she mostly does Click to Calm, Control Unleashed, massage and T-touch, understanding calming signals...those sorts of techniques.

ETA:  Forgot to post the web site, duh.  For west Michiganders...

She does indeed - thanks for the reminder.  If anyone else has suggestions, maybe this thread could act as a reference for people who come here looking for someone local to help them.  I do some behavior work, and have a network of other positive trainers in this area to refer to when I'm booked up.  So, I'm sure that similar situations exist in other parts of the country, you just don't find them by Googling sometimes.

I thought it was weird you didn't mention her.  Smile

Not really - there are a LOT of people who work with aggression.  I'd be typing for a long time if I made all the posts here lol.  She is a good one, though:-)
