3 yr old Husky Plays WAY TOO rough

We recently adopted a 3 yr old husky.  He's very sweet and loveable with us, but plays way too rough with other dogs.  We took him to a doggy playcare place to burn some energy and they put him on probation!  Apparently he tried to severly dominate every dog he played with.  (ie. jumping on them, pinning them down, humping, mouthing, etc.)

Since he's housetrained and knows the basic commands pretty well, I didn't want to go through an 8 week obedience training course.  Can anyone recommend an approach for correcting his dominance issues?

    Thanks!

You went and got a very active breed who is starting to have a peak energy level.  Huskies can run, not walk, RUN for miles and miles every day.  He needs to have a running partner, or go biking, or play fetch or go swimming for at least an hour most days.  This will calm him down quite a bit.

However all this exercise may not rid him of his dominance level.  From the picture in your post it looks like you don't actually have a husky, but a husky mix sled dog.  These dogs were bred to have ultra high energy levels and endurance and they are very dominant, as a general rule.

A positive based obedience class is a must, as this will teach you and your dog how to relate to each other.  Also, even though he "knows" all the basics, you might try an advanced class-despite what alot of people think they can be amazingly fun.

you might also want to look for some boxer owners as play friends. A breed notorious for loving to play super-rough.

Labs too. Conrad loves it when there are huskies, labs and boxers at the dog park, he's in hog heaven. He'll adjust his play style to be more gentle for other dogs, but a dog who loves to just beat the stuffing out of each other is his absolute dream.

It is definately the case that different breeds have tendancies towards different play styles.

I think you have a little more than just Husky in that dog.

I would not take your dog to a doggy playcare to burn energy, he has way more energy than most of the dogs and is a problem as you see, first to many unstable dogs that can cause problems and second that extra energy that your dog has is annoying for some dogs that could try to correct yours and end up in a fight

To burn that energy you can take a bike or rollerblades and do excersice with him, you can buy a doggy pack and fill it with something if you only want to walk with him, some places are good for socialize and some for excersicing but not for both and both have to be under your supervision

haha this is TOO true.  [&:]  I call up a friend and ask her if I can 'borrow' her boxer pup for the day when my mutt is feeling too squirrely for his own good.

Yesterday he lost a HUGE patch of his outer coat to that puppy, though!
