Turning in circles on the bed

One theory is that dogs (and wolves) turn in circles to find *upwind* position, so that they can sense danger approaching when they are resting. Could be true!

I heard something similar, that they do it to make sure first there is not danger around before going to sleep, but i dont think that is as accurate and actually do it to have a better "bed" to lay down, inside a house there is not danger [:D]

jjsmom06 and houndlove, my Walker hound dug her bed up and it took all her energy so that, when she was done, she HAD to plop down--she was that tired!

In fact, and I kid you not, after a few years she got so bad that she started doing it on my bed whenever she had the opportunity! She'd rip my blankets! It was the only "bad" thing that hound ever did and so help me if I didn't put up the baby gate when I left in the morning, my top blanket/quilt/comforter (whatever I had on it) would be torn to shreds.

And she'd hate when that gate went up. I called her my OCD Bed Girl. [:)]

My previous dog, a Golden, used to do this before entering a door. I've noticed now that every now and then my TT does this as well. He doesn't do the circle bit on his bed, though.
